Got round to doing some 1/144 scale stuff again, although not the Wings kind. Some Russian armour for the Northag Cold War rules. A shout out to Kevin of Miscmini for custom printing the decals for me

uh oh! looks like central and western europe are in peril!!!
Amazing stuff there, Steve!

Nice work Steve. That's one good looking lot of armoured vehicles you've done there And those railway targets on hex bases are very tasty Chris - nice one !
So far so good.
A long way to go yet but I'm hoping to have these "Dover Coastline" boards done by the time my Zepp is received from Dave and the elves. Mission 6 of OTT CYM campaign will be fought over them and I'll adapt them for Battle of Britain games too (and maybe a Sails game or two as well, but don't tell Tim).

The overall plan with MDF boards to be added. Swingate aerodrome is to the east of the castle, roughly where the radar masts will be for BoB games.
Dover Castle
and the Western Heights defences.
Sure thing Dave - all you have to do is persuade the government that it is safe to run an event for me to use them atHopefully we can persuade you to run them at a show one day Mike !
If onlyShouldn't be too hard Mike, if we stamp our feet, whine, say people can go to pubs and eat out, or, claim we're offended... ignoring all the current rules while we do so...that should do it !
Well my Shapeways box finally came yesterday. Thuis time a small box but what a trip from NY to MD.
Love those Russians Steve, fantastic job mate

Great looking Dover boards Mikee
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Hello everyone. My wish right now is for you and your families to be safe out there and seek normalcy where you can find it. You may have seen my July workbench contribution of refurbishing a 1/72 Val dive bomber (page 2 of the workbench. I commented that I would have to find a P40 to shoot it down - well.....
I was at my local Hobby Lobby and saw a 1/48 Airfix P40B with the number 160 of the 47th Pursuit Squadron flown by George Welch on December 7, 1941. Exactly what I wanted but the wrong scale. However, there was also a 1/72 Airfix P40B "Tomahawk", a plane we sold to the RAF while they were trying to ramp up production of Spitfires and Hurricanes. I bought it know that I would have to search for decals! The following is my journey through history:
The Airfix detail is good, so I was off to a promising beginning. Of course I did have to plan out and alter order of construction due to painting requirements. The Humbrol color palette was included in the kit, but some alteration was required to be accurate to the P40Bs that would be at Pearl Harbor on 12-7-41.
I finally found what I was seeking. P40B number 155 of the 47th Pursuit Squadron at Haleiwa on the north shore of Oahu. A little history for those not aware. It was Kenneth Taylor that flew 155 that day along with his friend George Welch who flew number 160. Those were the aircraft that were readied after Ken Taylor called the field at 7:55AM the morning of Dec. 7th. He and George hadn't gotten to bed until 6:30AM after a party and dance and all night poker game at the top of a Wikiki High rise. Awakened by explostions and gun fire and the roar of aircraft, Ken called the field. The guys had to jump into their Tuxedo trowsers from the night before and drive the 10 miles to the field in Ken's Buick, sometimes reaching 100MPH and occasionally strafed buy the invaders. They go up in the air with only 30 caliber ammo on board but they managed to down a few of those Val dive bombers. When the 30 Cal ammo was exhausted they landed at Wheeler field to get their 50 caliber guns loaded - they even had to evade friendly fire to do so. They took off again directly at incoming Val's firing as they took off - unbelievable! George and Ken both received the Distinguished Service Cross, although they were nominated for the Medal of Honor. They were denied that honor because there actions were ordered!!! Go figure. Ok, back to the model:
I did alot of detail painting on the sprue
detail the exhaust and masked and painted the canopy, then cut the one piece into the windscreen and sliding canopy (a first for me).
Assembly of the fuselage, cockpit detail and wing attachements proceeded well.
On thing I did do was put the tuxedo paints (shirt, black scarf etc.) on Ken Taylor - a very dapper pilot, don't you think?
Next was masking the upper so I could spray the bottom side, but first I applied a black wash to highlight the detail of the kit molding.
One nice thing were the detail decals for the prop and the three piece construction of prop, spinner and backplate.
The topcoat was the equivalent of Humbrol 226, Interior Matte Green followed by a light thinner wash, more green and then an acrylic wash of brown for some weathering.
I decided to do a wheels down version as I had a choice of up or down. The gear is very fragile so I am saving all unused parts in case I have to make a change later. The decals arrive so it was back to the bench for mare assembly and decal application.
Of course I had to spray dullcoat at different junctures, but things were turning out. I had a dilema solved by the modeler community on the radio wires for the early P40s, so I went to work with my monoflament and pin vise drill. Glued the "wire" to the wing tips fuselage and then threaded all three through the hole drilled in the vertical stabilizer. I did error when snipping off the monofil. tails and have to reinstall the port wing wire, but I kept my cool.
The last finishing touch was taking a sight from a big gun from left over PE sprue and applying it to the P40 - I think it turned out!
Ken Taylor is ready to roll and get some payback.

Super job!

Much appreciated (and thanks for the Rep.)
I have not totally ignored WoG this month. I am fortunate that my Granddaughter is able to visit and relax at our place on a regular basis. Of course she has her own room here, but she does like to utilize my coastal game mat for her various lego kits. The thing is she is always welcoming of a mash up when I pull out a couple of "Little Planes". I pulled out a 1-1/2 Strutter and a Breguet - two sturdy kites. Well that initiated air races running all around and pooping out Grandpa. Since she gravitated to the Strutter I figured, why not - let's do a repaint so she can have her very own Little Plane. It was a fairlysimple repaint, although I did have to take my time around the roundels. She likes Blue, so I went at it but still kept some Strutter color and markings. She likes it very much and it occupies a place of honor on her nightstand.

What's her name then?
Just kidding, great idea and great result - really pleasing that she likes it so much.
She should count herself lucky that she has a grandparent who will do that for her.

Excellent P40 and HAYLEY strutter, Willi
Great to see you are involved with her by doing something she enjoys. Helps keep both of you occupied.
Well I finally took some photos of what I have been up to so far this month. I am reading a book "In the Skies of Forgotten Courage" about the British in the Adradic and Albania , 197-18. Its an AERONAUT book so lots of pictures and information. Beside the air part it talks about the "BARRAGE" of the blockade to catch U-boat going to the Med. One part of the BARRAGE was what they called DRIFTERS. Here is my take on the DRIFTERS. They are CRUEL SEAS trawlers and will make a good target for the AH planes.
Next I will have the British planes that will defend these ships from the AH attacks.
Nice game additions! I remember these and Q-ships drifting near Gibraltar to snag U-boats slipping in and out with the tides . . . well done!
To go along with the DRIFTERS here are some other ships. Again CRUEL SEAS and more modern but they did have small craft patroling the area for U-boats and search for downed planes/crews. One event had them towing Short 320's out to sea before they went on a raid. This gave the planes more time in the air. These models are FAIRMILE ML 303's.
This one is a FAIRMILE minesweeper.
Planes will be up next.

Nice looking float plane, Bob.
I wish Ares would consider giving us some for both sides.
Ooh, love those shots of the Shorts float plane!
Is that a MF 7 in the box by itself ? Can't wait to see the finished products.
Wow! Some cool projects, guys. Well done!
So how many books are in your personal library?

That looks great. Thanks for doing it. Daryl make a Short 184 with bombs and a torpeado but I wasn't sure how I could mount it. All the other ones I did are his though.
