    Default Social Niceties

Food for thought - at least for me. Walking my dog and he suddenly pulls is lead out of my hand and runs off. He saw a couple of dogs in the front yard of a nearby house and it frightened him. Him getting off his lead is always is a horror story. For a start he is a lot faster than I am and he knows getting on the lead is a game he can win!. The other dogs corralled him and fortunately I was able to step on his lead and reel him in. The thing is though I was so relieved to get him that I paid absolutely no attention to the other dogs or to the lady owner who was helping me get him back. I just grabbed him and headed off. That was really rude of me and something that in normal times I would not have done. Has anyone else noticed a downturn in manners since social isolation came into vogue? Horrible thought but is our world getting so narrow that we simply do not attempt to be civil to one another these days?

Yeah, it's a scarier pandemic than the bug itself. Particularly with the permanent epidemic of Weapons Grade Stupid in my area...

    Thumbs down

Yes the Pandemic has certainly seen a big increase in "Stupid" & a lack of thought or care for others!

I have found people to be more friendly and polite.

id say ive experienced a mixture of both. some people are more polite and friendlier, while others seem maybe not rude, but oblivious to those around them. a few others, more on edge and prone to snap at you.

I think Society is polarising - the nice are getting nicer, and the rude are getting ruder.

I have to agree with Tim. People are the way they are no matter the situation.

Have to agree with all the comments above - mostly I've found there's a feeling of 'we're all in it together' and we all try to comply with the rules as best we can using common sense & good manners. Then there's a minority of stupid people (there always will be, unless the virus does for them) who flagrantly ignore the rules and have no common sense and never will have. Then there's those that think they're entitled - usually the wealthy - who think the world revolves around them and that anyone else must do likewise. Too posh to distance. They'll troop up the pavement 3-4 abreast, expect you to get out the way, then say thankyou like you had a choice !

My Better Half was in a line at the local fabric store, and while trying to safe-distance from a few others by backing up, tripped over one of those concrete parking stops. She took a nasty fall. Others stepped in to assist, and I was all: "STAND BACK! You are not in our circle." Meaning that they were not in our family bubble or circle of contacts. I did add that we appreciated the offer of assistance, but without Personal Protective Equipment, we would all be taking unacceptable risks with our health.

We always carry a well-stocked first aid kit in the car, and it was needed for some of the road-rash the Better Half had acquired in the fall.

So, yes. I could have been more tactful, but I was a bit stressed at the moment, too.

I do hope your wife is over her fall and yes, that was exactly like me and my dog. I knew if he got away I would have a devil of a job getting him back. Like panic, that made me totally oblivious of all else. Last night we went to our first Pub Trivia night in four months. Restrictions have been relaxed here in my state but we still try for social distancing and we have quarantine/isolation measures in place for incoming folk from other states. It was enjoyable but it felt a little weird with everyone trying to keeping a set distance apart.

Sorry to hear that Mike. Hope Donna is not too badly injured. Give her our best wishes and to you too buddy

I guess we've experienced a mixture of behaviour at this time, same as the rest of you. But one thing I have noticed is a lot more good friendly activity between close neighbours. Folk looking out for one another. The downside has been living within earshot of a pub or two. During lockdown it was very quiet. With the return of pub opening times the rowdies have been out there, often from lunchtime to dusk. That's when the behaviour has become stupid. Hey ho, guess I'm just getting old, intolerant and grumpy
