Thread: A Wing and a Prayer: Bombing the Reich

Default A Wing and a Prayer: Bombing the Reich

If you have ever played a solitaire game by Lock 'N Load called "A Wing and a Prayer: Bombing the Reich" (it is like B-17 Queen of the Skies, you just manage a whole squadron), you may have noticed the game doesn't really work well. No tension, no fun. I spent 3 weeks playing the game and modding/testing the rules, because the game felt like a massive waste of great potential, and it looks really good. Then i posted it to BGG and Lock 'N Load people liked it and made it official.

Just in case you look for a solitaire ploughing up of the Reich type of a game...

    Thanks, Jan.
I recently signed up for the Kickstarter to the upgrade of DVG B-17 Flying Fortress Leader so it will be interesting to compare these rules with theirs.

Yeah, the B-17 leader has been in my sights for the longest time. I think the best thing is to have all 3 of them
B-17 / Target for Today / Tonight - you manage one bomber
A Wing and a Prayer: Bombing the Reich - you manage one squadron
B-17 Leader - you manage the whole goddammit army

I still own and play B-17 Queen of the Skies. It was my oldest daughter's favorite game when she was growing up. A Wing and a Prayer ended up being a very pleasant discovery for me. It was an excellent companion game to QOTS. Personally, I really enjoy playing A Wing and a Prayer especially the long campaigns. I like games that draw me in, and make me become personally attached to my planes and crews. Both of these games do that for me. I've had no problems with the rules, so far. I learned a long time ago that with many war games, a little common sense goes a long way when rules get a little fuzzy.

My WGS planes come in handy as visual aids with both of these games too.

Since I enjoy playing these two games so much, I went ahead and picked up Target for Today, and B-29 Superfortress. Looking forward to finding table time for these games after I clear Infection: Humanity's Last Gasp from my gaming table. DVG's B-17 Leader game is still on my radar.

So, thank you Honza for play testing, and contributing to rules modifications for the A Wing and a Prayer game. I appreciate it.

Me too . They have released an updated version recently, as "Target for Today" and a British variant as "Target for Tonight".
