Beside the official gaming mats by nexus/ares, are there any others you could recommend?
I be toying with this one (because of the nice clouds):

Andreas,
I love the deepcutstudio mat, the clouds and effects are excellent. If you're interested in this version ask for the Over No Man's Land mat if you'd like that look. Details are in post #34 and pics here
Here is a much cheaper option:

I love mine
Mike,
That looks like a great mat. I've added it to my Amazon wish list. Thanks!
Jim
I gave serious consideration to Deepcut's Aerial Fields mat but for some reason the clouds turned me off, mainly because it limits the mat to one purpose, aerial warfare wargames! Otherwise the 4' x 6' version it would be perfect for 15mm and smaller scale land based wargames. Alas!
You may find these mats interesting. Personally I don't particularly care for their art style as it leans more towards illustration than realism. However, I think their Shiloh, Waterloo and Gettyburg mats offer the most varied, realistic looking terrain...

A huge upside is the Cigar Box battle mats are made of fleece and can be folded any which way you like and easily stuffed into a backpack or luggage. The downside is I suspect international shipping costs may kill the deal for you. Not sure if they have a European distributor.
There there's this one from Frontline on a mousemat material. FYI it's another US based company though. They also offer a 4' x 6' version.

If you like to fiddle around with google earth and image processing you could have www.wir-machen-druck.de print a table cloth with your preferred area of the world.
For WW2 PTO I did a 120x160 cm plain google sea that I configure with paper printed islands.
I purchased the Deepcut Aerial Fields 4'x6' mat and I was not disappointed. I wasn't convinced, but took a chance. It looks superb and fills my gaming table nicely. Once planes are on it, it looks even better. Highly recommended.
And the shipping was very reasonable from Lithuania to the US and it arrived in 10 days. I've waited 10 weeks for packages from the Netherlands and Australia, so that was a pleasant surprise.
