First let me wish a Happy Independence Day to all Americans and a safe and healthy year to everyone.
If you have followed the monthly work benches you may have seen my June workbench post (6-7-20) as I constructed ship kits in anticipation of an Homage to one of my favorite Movies "The Enemy Below". I embarked on the next phase of my (hoped) vision with my first attempt at creating an ocean. I reviewed several youtube published videos and ended up using a combination a simple toilet tissue and white glue procedure that I think worked out fairly well. Multiple layers of tissue and glue mixture built up the ocean surface after which acrylic paint was stippled (black, blue and white) to approximated an Atlantic ocean dark color plus ship wakes and breakers. Move tissue was used with Vallejo Water Effects clear gloss acrylic to create the shine of water along with depth and volume.
I had several issues with creating a reasonable facsimile of the fictitious USS Haynes - DE 181, as the ship in the movie was an actual DE, USS Whitehurst in post war refit (1957) and the Trumpeter kit, USS England, as rather famous WWII DE in the Pacific theater. The details are discussed in the Atom Furnace Blog. And now for:
I added a wood base and hand painted ID plaque - now I need a nice backdrop for better photos!
I hope you all liked the effort and will visit the Blog. Now back to the work bench - I have a JU88 to work on!
