Thread: Fly by Yourself for Yourself

  1. #1

Default Fly by Yourself for Yourself

This evening’s entertainment probably can’t be called a scenario. However there was action, and this is a report after the action.
The night’s game was inspired by a reply by P-51D in a thread “Are ‘bad’ planes fun to fly?” on 30/9/18. He described what they locally called Friday Night Flights. Essentially, it’s a free for all.

    INSTRUCTIONS
Every chosen plane has a slip of paper with plane type. All these slips of paper went into the flying helmet. Each player then randomly selects a slip of paper and then flies that plane in battle in a free-for-all, where alliances are frowned upon.
Once a pilot is shot down, they then select a new slip of paper and enter the battle in the new plane.
The winner is the person who flies the least number of planes. If two or more players are equal, it is the one with the least damage on the plane being flown when the time for the game expires.
We chose one and half hours for our game, and stopped by the clock, not the action.

Planes available to be used (with WoG points)
    Morane-Saulnier N 46 Fokker E.III 48
    Airco DH2 58 Halbestadt D.III 60
    SPAD VII (A guns) 82 Aviatik D.I 82
SPAD XIII 85 Albatros DVa 82
    Sopwith Camel 86 Fokker Dr.I 85
    RAF SE5a 92 Siemens-Schukert D.III 93
    449 450

With a few exceptions the report shows photographs of when planes engaged with one another. I’ve left out general flying and manoeuvring to keep the length down.

Baxter ended up flying Halbestadt D.III, SPAD XIII, SPAD VII, & Fokker E.III.
    Mark flew Siemens-Schukert D.III, RAF SE5a, & Morane-Saulnier N.
Windy Jack flew Fokker Dr.I, & Airco DH2.
    Biggles Down-Under flew Albatros D.Va.
This meant Biggles Down-Under was the clear victor!!!

That Victor ended the night in his original plane and a total of 6 damage points! In a masterful display of what not to do, I was on my 4th plane at games end.

It is enough to drive anyone to Sails.

    Well done guys.

This was a fun scenario - much more so than it looked on paper!

My opinion is not in the least biased by the fact that I came out the winner

    Thumbs up

Well that was certainly something completely different.
I am sure you all had a lot of fun playing with such a mix of aircraft.

Interesting take on what we in the US call a demolition derby. (congratulatory head bobs) to Biggles for the win.

Awesome scenario. I want to try it so bad. Of course, you teach me this when we are not allowed to be in groups of people!

Good to see someone playing a game. I'm hoping to play my 3rd ever game tomorrow at the local games shop that has just reopened.

I have found "shark pit" games to be a lot of fun. Esp. when I get to set CappyTom on fire for the third time in the game

Well done Biggles. No mean feat for an Albatross DVa! A demolition derby is always a hit. Good to see pilots able to fly together. Thanks for posting.

We are lucky enough to live in a Covid 19 free state at the moment and we have not had a new case for many weeks. Hence our games nights. Across the border in Victoria they are getting double digit increases daily and some 1000 defence personnel have been called in to help contain it. Our Police are enforcing border shutdowns with them and in other states sporting events are not selling Victorians any tickets for their venues. Our thoughts are with them but it is a big worry for all Australia that they cannot seem to get on top of it.

Small fry news compared with the US and other stricken countries around the globe. But we will all get through this eventually.

    Awesome report!

Yes, sadly here in the U.S. we've generally dropped the covid ball. Hopefully things will improve with diligence.

In better news, I have a good friend coming to visit tomorrow for a few days and will definitely replicate this format flying 2 planes each. He and I (and his wife) have been following covid restrictions faithfully since early March so the risk is minimal. One side-effect of working from home is that my collection of planes has doubled and also purchased some WGS Looking forward to getting shot down
