Good looking warbird Baz
Sapiens qui vigilat... "He is wise who watches"
Pretty!
The red outline really sets it off.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Nice Picture!
Correct on both counts, Diamondback. But the question is, which of the various Naval squadrons who identified themselves as Jolly Rogers do those markings belong to? A search on the classicaircraftphotography.com site resulted in "image is missing or has been moved".
As far as I can tell, several squadrons calling themselves the Jolly Rogers existed: VF-17, which after several reorganizations became VF-61, VF-84 and VF-103; although, from what I can find, VF-84 never flew the F4U/FG Corsair. Hm.
Great Photograph, Barry!
Very nice photo Barry.
Great pic. Must have been hard to land that on a carrier deck.
Try it with a B17...
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
It was until the Royal Navy figured out how to do it.
They flew left wing low along the port side of the carrier bow to stern. Then they performed a 180 turn to port, still keeping the left wing low, so that they could see the carrier. They lined up on the carrier, still with left wing low, so that they could see the deck landing officer. If they received the o.k. they levelled off and landed.
