Thread: Fe2b Bombers!

    Default Fe2b Bombers!

For some reason I have done a number of Fe2b's over the years and when I inventoried my collection I only have two. So I ordered 4 from Paul of Decapod Models fame on Shapeways. They arrived this week and I am so impressed! If all along the 3D printed models had been this good Ares would be out of the business. Exquisite and fine details on WSF, remarkable. The struts are so fine and have an airfoil cross section. The pilot and gunner have LEGS! Incredible. They required only two coats of gloss clear to bring the surfaces to smooth as styrene status, and I am now ready to pick colors and decals. Outstanding work Paul!!! Now to Daryl's (RAF) 1/288 scale zeppelin! . . . It's coming soon!

Actually I think those are Decapod (Paul)'s models, as I haven't yet done an FE2b model. They are rather nice, and the surface quality is getting better every year, it seems.

You are correct! So sorry to you both!!!! Too much paint thinner in the air! Although the Zeppelin is yours . . . I have a large number of Decapod's beautiful creations in my collection, sorry Paul, again exquisite work!

I have to agree with you all. By the looks of the models I am now thinking of getting two myself!

I have a brace for OTT, they're superb models.

    Cheers Dave & Darryl

They have been getting better slowly but it's taken many years.

I had a hankering for more struts recently so I had to build the caudron G3 to get it out of my system

it didn't work - I think I need to go to the next level with a G4

Edit - just spotted Darryl's G4, I'll scan for something else.

Agreed. They are superb models. Here's one of yours coming in to land during the OTT CYM 3 mission recently completed. I used three of them during that epic mission. Thanks Paul

Not certain if this is showing an FE2b or FE2d. I have two of the latter and one of the former (which sadly got damaged and I have yet to repair it properly - it will get done.

Cheers Mike - it's an fe2d (radiator behind pilots head)

Not sure how you got that photo - throw the model and click as it goes past?

I suppose fitting the rear firing Lewis gun is impractical. Could it be included as a separate part to glue on, perhaps?

Do Shapeways ship from the EU? I could only find shipping from USA. Which isn't cost effective because of import duties/tax.

Yes - I get all mine from the Netherlands.
