Thread: Tripod Tuesday

    Default Tripod Tuesday

It was my turn to organise our weekly shoot-out and so I decided we would give these scenarios a try:

    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...910#post531910

As usual, we had a heap of fun but in the end the Tripods were vanquished - just! The following pics chart the progress of them across the table top only to be narrowly defeated just as they were about to exit the table as per the above scenario rules.

The world awaits with baited breath as the protagonists square off, ie my dining room table is all set up waiting for my partners in crime (Baxter, Windy Jack & Mark to arrive):

Someone has to turn their mind to a scenario involving Mars Bars!!

The battle for the survival of the world begins:

The Tripods retaliate with the inevitable clouds of evil black smoke:

And the battle rages on with both sides taking hits:

The tripods did eventually battle their way to the opposite side of the table but, due to poor energy management and some accurate shooting that resulted in major damage to both tripods, their levels had diminished below the required levels to achieve victory.

Good to see games being played again - especially T&T.
Been a while since I have seen an AAR with Martians.
    Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. Even after reading the scenario, my first thought after seeing that pic was "that's way too many A firing planes against two tripods, one of them being the locust."

But I love seeing that you stuck to the namesake. So many triplanes!

Loved seeing the pics and how you all do AAR on this site.

Nice job Wayne & all involved - three to one odds is about right we've found.

That looks great Wayne! Were there any terrain obstacles to get in the way of the Tripods? (Mars bars, lol!) That cylinder looks Fantastic!

The current rules don't cover extreme measures. You would need a bomber big enough to carry a nuke. Perhaps a Lancaster. Then, you would have to drop that nuke from altitude, unless the crew were suicidal.

Not a great game, for a table-top battle, IMHO. The 'fall-out' from using a nuke would have to be considered, too. But that would be outside the scope of a single game.

PS: Hmmm... The He.111 could have carried a 10,000 lb load. Not far, and probably not high enough, but if we are looking at suicidal missions, and with some redesigning to carry a single large bomb, it is possible.

Hm, how about a scenario with He-111's carrying something like a Fritz-X or a Henschel Hs293?

Should the WWII version be called Monoplanes and Martians and be played on a Monday? (Just thought I'd ask after Bigglesdownunder's report on Tripod Tuesday, and then a suggestion for a WWII game.)
