    Default Rockets and overlapping

If you Fire rockets at a tripod, but in the second phase after firing, the tripod and plane move in such a way that the plane is overlapping but the side it "passed" is a shielded side. But the firing arc is not touching a shield.

What happens? Damaged tripod? Or damaged sheilds?

I would have to look at this carefully.

What the rule is supposed to emulate, IMHO, is that the rockets are ignited but don't actually leave the plane immediately. Therefore, the plane has to 'stay on target' until the next phase to ensure the launch was clean. Look at the path between the launch point and the "hit". Did the Tripod turn sufficiently enough to get the shield into position, or did the rockets pass through an unshielded side. The end position of the plane and the firing arc aren't the determiner of the hit, just the path. So, somewhere between the previous phase of launch, and the end of the next phase the rockets are hitting, not at the end of the second firing phase (although the damage is inflicted in the second phase, simultaneously with other firing).

Looking at the latest rules (2019 1.0 Version), I don't see anything that would change this. So, it would depend on the particular situation, and the agreement of the players. I wouldn't give a definitive answer without pictures.

This comes under condition 2 to hit the target Derrick:
    2) After this second maneuver, the same target is in the plane’s front firing arc, or, the airplane overlaps the target.

Bearing in mind the rocket rules were designed for use against an unarmoured static kite balloon, with a large base, we need to take into account that the Tripod has a tiny base & can move/turn to present a different side.
So, phase 1 - pilot declares he's launching his rockets at a static Tripod in his front firing arc that is presenting an un-shielded side.
Phase 2 - That dang-blasted Tripod changes it's facing and presents a shielded side to the attack as the plane moves ahead & overlaps the tripod base.

Taking it that conditions 1 & 3 are met then we have to consider condition 2:
After this second manoeuvre, the same target is in the plane’s front firing arc - no it's not.
or, the airplane overlaps the target. - Yes it does

    That's a hit !
As the target changed it's facing then that is the facing that is struck - so in this example that would be the shields.
The target is the Tripod as a whole rather than a specific part of it, though obviously we'll try to stick the rockets in the most damaging section; it could just as easily turn an un-shielded side toward you.

As the rockets are unguided I'd house rule that if there's a sliver of un-shielded area on the side presented that cannot be targeted as it would be with MG's of an aircraft.
