    Default Desert terrain mats

    Hi all

Some photos of my 3D Libyan Desert terrain mats. I call it Wadi Y’know. The dunes are made using different techniques, some sculpted from modeling paste others made from caulking material and others made from thickened gesso and paint. There are over 2400 tiny palm trees I made from tiny nails and charged electrostatic grass fibers. I think I have some permanent nerve damage in my right thumb from making them 😉. This board was made for a huge demo game at Little Wars Melbourne in 2019. It measures 4 feet wide x 14 feet long and includes a 6 feet section of the Mediterranean and coastline which featured a Cruel Seas game demo running at the same time. We even sent some Bristol Beaufort after the German transport ships for a torpedo attack using Andreas beta torpedo rules with some homespun crossover rules.

There were 5 different overlapping scenarios going on during the day. All aircraft and terrain are from my collection some painted by me others painted by Leslie Applebee and are manufactured by either Ares Games or AIM. Buildings are by Brigade Models and a friends 3D drawings and printer. Ships are from my friend Antony Chandlers collection.

Excellent, it looks really good, I like the use of the interlocking mats, holds it all together. The palm trees look like they would have been a nightmare to do but are very effective.

Excellent work. Looks more like a diorama than a game mat
