Default Pacific Scenario Suggestion for Young Beginner?

    Hi Flyers,

Can someone suggest a Pacific Theater scenario that would be good to introduce a young beginner (12yo)? Preferably something involving attacking/protecting a ship?
Probably need to keep the aircraft count to two per side.

I've looked through the Mission Discussion subforums and the scenario files and I haven't found what I'm looking for. I thought I had seen someone post something
like what I described within the last year or so (?). But I can't find it and the forum search does not seem to be working for me for some reason.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided!

Much will depend upon, which aircraft models you own. Have you downloaded the Points Value table from the Ares website? It may be found at http://www.aresgames.eu/category/dow...of-glory-games

The Japanese dive bombers are the Aichi Val (long out of production) and the Yokosuka Suisei (still available). For fighters the Mitsubishi A6M2 Reisen (Zero) models have been out of production for a long time, the Kawasaki Ki-61's are scarce, Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (not yet released) but there are a few Nakajima Ki-84 Hayates around.

The American dive bomber is the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless (there are a few available). Regarding fighters the Bell Airacobra (not yet released), Curtiss P-40 and Grumman F4F Wildcat are long out of production, but there are still some North American Mustangs and Republic Thunderbolts around. You may also be able to find a Mitchell bomber but they are pretty scarce.

Look at what you have available. Use the points table to give a fairly even match up (or not, if you want your 12-year old to win). You can make fine adjustments by giving Ace Skills but they might be too much for a beginner.

    What David said

Another approach to finding the elusive and often very expensive rare models might be to get some 3rd party planes via Shapeways or perhaps Merit for the US ones if you can search for them online.

AIM is a great source for WW2 Pacific War aircraft.

Merritt does sets of US planes already painted if you can find them.(Wildcat, Dauntless and B-25) AIM is the best source for unpainted resin models. Trumpeter also have a small line of 1/200 models, Wildcat, Devestator, B-25 and others.
Of course you'll have to come up with bases and cards for non-ARES. I have scans of all the decks so can send you any deck you need for you to print yourself.

For an easy quick scenario you could have a Dauntless or two trying to bomb a Japanese ship escorted by a Wildcat or two. Have 2 or 3 Japanese fighters on CAP.

Thanks for the advice so far! I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm pretty set as far as aircraft selection. I believe I have all of the WWII models since the original Wings of War WWII came out. In addition I have a bunch of Blood Red Skies models to supplement.
