Thread: Pre-Sale Advice request

    Default Pre-Sale Advice request

Hi all, it's been along time since I last posted here and sad to say I dont really get time for as much gaming these days and a lack of players has led me to consider selling my Wings of War collection.

Before I list them on e-bay (which id prefer not to if possible)I wondered if you could give me some advice on prices and whether it's worth listing here first or maybe a Facebook group etc

I have all the contents (ie counters, card decks, rulers, boards etc)of:

Wings of War: Famous Aces, Watch Your Back, Burning Drachens, Flight of the Giants (but not the actual boxes)

The Booster Packs: Recon Patrol, Top Fighters, Immelmann

    The following Planes:

Albatross DVa (x3)(one is Udet not sure onthe other two as yet) (one seems to be missing its flight base - but see below i have some spares)
    RAF Re8 (Longton/Carson)
    Sopwith Camel (Barker)
    Airco DH2(Hawker)
    Fokker EIII (Immelmann)
    De Havilland DH4 (Atkey)
    Fokker D VII (Udet)
    RAF SE5a (Bishop)
Fokker DR1 (x2) (Kempf & Von Richthofen - the older model with the red under carriage)
    SPAD XIII (Rickenbacker)
    LFG Roland C2 (Seibert)
    Nieuport 16(de Guibert)
    Albatross DIII (Brumoski)
    UFAG C1( Luftfahrtruppen 2)
Goth GV (Von Korff) still in box
    German(yellow) Balloon

(I have all the relevant card decks for all the above planes)

plus a carry case with cut to shape foam inserts that holds everything but the bomber and balloon, a Tritex Sopwith Camel(part built) some transfers, Peter Pig pilots and some painted 6mm Ground targets(trenches, truck, etc) and some laser cut clear plastic flight stands

I can post pics or provide more details if necessary, not sure if the various paint schemes make any difference, but i can list them if it helps.

Ideally I would sell it all as one, but would consider breaking it up if you guys think it would sell quicker/easier, thanks in advance for any advice.

You could go any way with this one. You have some planes that a lot of people are looking for. I would list the models by plane type. The balloon by itself. The case with all the Peter Pig and such in a listing. Then make a listing with all the rule box sets. That is what I would do.

Thanks for the advice, any ideas on suggested asking prices? (im not expecting silly e-bay prices, I'd rather it went to a member of the community or if anyone has any GW Man O War stuff i'd be happy to trade).

I have edited the OP with the names of the planes I can ID, looking at Ares' site I cant seem to locate half my planes is there an online catalogue of all models anywhere?

Download this from the files Chris - it's not bang up to date but will likely have your models as it includes Nexus WoW not just Ares. Has images & numbers.

Thanks Dave, that's very useful, and i have updated the OP with the relevant names, still struggling with two Albatross DVa's(I think) one has green/purple wings, green tail, red/brown fuselage with a large with flower, the other predominately red with brown and two different shades of green(one is a sickly puce like green) on the wings, any clues?

WGF001B Albatros D.Va Paul Baumer, Jasta 5. The one on the right is a repaint. I bet some of the more knowledgeable members will know shortly.

Thanks Jeff, and yes now i think about it the one on the right might not even be an official model (the engine appears to be slightly different than the other two DVa's), hence its missing base plate, though i genuinely cannot remember where i got it from

Hello Chris. Sorry to hear you're not playing anymore. Let me/us what you decide, I'm interested in 3/4 models if you decide to sell separately.

The one on the right looks like the F-Toy Alb D.III in the scheme of MvR Chris.

    Thats it Dave! Many thanks

I've been looking around e-bay but cant seem to find many of my planes to compare with and then the ones I have vary wildly from £14 -£ stupid(as a collector of GW's OOP specialist games stuff, i hate ebay - buy it now- stupid inflated prices) but all those i have seen are boxed, mine are not(apart from the Gotha), so its hard to get an idea, and whilst im not grasping for every last penny nor do i want to give them away, so if i was to say £250 for everything would this be unreasonable and overpriced or am i giving it away at that price?

Or would i be better off selling certain sought after items separately (no idea if any of the above are particularly sought after, as i am completely out of touch with the WOW hobby ) I would for ease just ask for offers on here but i dont think that is allowed, so any price guidance is greatly appreciated as i'd like to get them posted up here ASAP

I'd say £250 is a reasonable ask to shift the lot quickly. I dare say you'd get more by breaking it down but then you may be left with some that will just hang about and not make much. I think it's generous of you to offer it to the forum community.

If you want to get rid quickly one big lot. If you want to maximize your money, individual listings. I am interested in several as well. I am sure there are many members here interested. I am sure if you want to sell here for a set price you would have no problem reducing your inventory. I am interested in buying your peter pilots right now. I cannot find any peter pig in the USA.

You'd certainly get more money selling them individually, but packaging them up without their boxes and posting them off to lots of different buyers would be a lot of hassle!
Plus, as Dave said, you'd probably be left with a handful of "peg queens" that won't shift, except for peanuts.

Honestly, some of your rarer, more desirable planes would sell for a bit more individually, but don't trust the "Buy It Now" prices on ebay.
Those planes listed there, at those inflated prices, have been there for a long time, and are not selling at all!
I trawl ebay every day, often 2 or 3 times a day
Some of the "Buy It Now" planes have been there for over a year! And are still there!
There's a balloon set offered at a starting price of £140, just starting its EIGHTH time around, with no reduction in the starting price...............it will be there for ever; no one will ever pay that!

If you're prepared to wait a bit, you might get more than £250 for a job lot sale, but for a quick sale I think £250 is very reasonable.

I only play with cards and I would LOVE to buy them if you don't want them. I have tried to expand my deck but it is really hard for me due to limited supply. I have never gotten into miniatures so I am probably not your best customer for those but I would be more than happy to pay a fine price for the cards.

Thanks for all the advice, i will make a start on sorting all the decks out as they've gotten a little muddled up, and make a start on some pics, couple more quick questions, i assume the planes should be sold with the relevant manoeuvre decks? and flight pegs - how many pegs should there for each?

Oh and @ FancyPilot, yes i would probably sell the booster decks(assuming you mean these) separately from the miniature side of things. Once i have a full inventory i'll get back to you.

  18. #18

    Default

The planes should Definitely have their complete manoeuvre deck and base! They would be worth quite a bit less without them.
They were sold with 4 pegs each, but most players manage to lose them over time - a minimum of three would not be criticised, and reprint bags of 50 pegs are produced every now and then so players can replace losses.

Sorry to be a pain, but whilst organising the various decks, i see the various codes AP, CF, P, etc is there a list of these somewhere as they dont necessary match the box sets/boosters

  21. #21

    Default

AP = airplane pack ; the cards came in a single-plane box

    FA = Famous Aces
    WB = Watch Your Back
    BD = Burning Drachens
FG = Flight of the Giants

CF = Crossfire ; the cards came from that Booster
RP = Recon Patrol ; the cards came from that Booster
TF = Top Fighters ; the cards came from that Booster
DF - Dogfight ; the cards came from that Booster

    Don't recognize P...............

Peter Pig in the USA is only sold through Brookhurst Hobbies out of California as far as I know.

I'd group Balloon Busters; the Yellow Balloon with transfers and stand/pegs; Nieuport 16(de Guibert) together as they are the constituent parts of a set Chris.
I'd also refer to player mats as cockpits - WoW & WoG - rather than mats. Otherwise looks good to go, just stick a price on it and go !

Hello. I am sorry to say that unfortunately a few things have happened with work that has now cut my gaming budget to nothing. Sorry I must recind my offer.
