Default First AAR: Somewhere over Germany 1945

I flew this little solo mission today playing three BF.109 K-4s against a Spitfire MK.IX and a Bristol Beaufighter. Hope you enjoy this as much as I had putting it together.

Somewhere over Germany the RAF is flying a scouting mission and is intercepted by three BF.109 K-4s - an engagement follows.

    FIRST ENGAGEMENT
    • The lone Spitfire MK.IX shoots at Major Erich Hartmann, causing his BF.109 K-4 to catch fire. The result is a total of 7 points of damage.
    • Hartmann fires back, causing the Spitfire to smoke - only taking 3 points of damage.

    * Please forgive the backwards base.

    • A BF.109 from the Luftwaffe's 9./JG3 shoots long range at the Bristol Beaufighter, damaging the engine and marking up 3 points of damage.
    • The Bristol Beaufighter has no targets to shoot at and the remaining BF.109 K-4 (1.JG77) flanks around to the right of the Beaufighter trying to get behind it.

    Damage Summary
    Hartmann 7/18 On fire
    Spitfire MK.IX 3/18 Smoking
    Bristol Beaufighter 3/23 Engine damaged
    BF.109 K-4 (1./JG77) 0/18 NA
    BF.109 K-4 (9./JG3) 0/18 NA

    SECOND ENGAGEMENT
    • Major Hartmann's BF.109 is burning uncontrollably and takes another 3 points of damage - totaling 10 of 18 damage.
    • Spitfire MK.IX line of sight is blocked by the Beaufighter as he flies past Hartmann at full speed.
    • BF.109 (9./JG3) just escapes the Bristol Beaufighter's guns and shoots a short range burst from his cannons causing the Beaufighter to take rudder damage (5) and a single 15 point damage token, taking the Beaufighter down.

    • The two other BF.109s (Hartmann and 1./JG77) execute turning maneuvers to attempt to re-engage the RAF planes.

    Damage Summary
    Hartmann 10/18 On fire
    Spitfire MK.IX 3/18 Smoking
    BF.109 K-4 (1./JG77) 0/18 NA
    BF.109 K-4 (9./JG3) 0/18 NA
Bristol Beaufighter 23/23 KIA - Engine damaged, rudder jam

    THIRD ENGAGEMENT
    • Hartmann's 109 continues to burn, causing another point of damage and the rudder to jam, preventing right turns.
    • The Spitfire MK.IX pushes the throttle forward and speeds past the BF.109 (9./JG3) that just took down his fellow pilot’s plane.

    Damage Summary
Hartmann 11/18 On fire, rudder jam (preventing right turns)
    Spitfire MK.IX 3/18 Smoking
    BF.109 K-4 (1./JG77) 0/18 NA
    BF.109 K-4 (9./JG3) 0/18 NA
Bristol Beaufighter 23/23 KIA - Engine damaged, rudder jam

    FOURTH ENGAGEMENT
    • Hartmann’s plane begins to stall, still burning uncontrollably.
    • The lone Spitfire, piloted by Stanislaw Skalski, starts to realize his inevitable fate facing three BF.109s without the support of the Beaufighter. He glances out his cockpit witnessing the burning Beaufighter screaming towards the earth. He swallows hard and banks hard right, swinging his plane around to fight his enemies head on.

    FIFTH ENGAGEMENT
    • Hartmann's plane takes another 2 points of damage, bringing him up to 13 as his plane begins to crumble in the sky. He is attempting to get his plane under control, but the situation is dire.
    • 9./JG3 performs an Immelmann turn, trying to catch the lone Spitfire off guard and get on his six.
    • The smoking plane of Skalski is seen in the distance as the Luftwaffe pilots close in.

    Damage Summary
Hartmann 13/18 On fire, rudder jam (preventing right turns)
    Spitfire MK.IX 3/18 Smoking

    SIXTH ENGAGEMENT
    • Hartmann gets his plane’s rudder under control, but not without taking more damage, he is up to 16/18 total damage.

    SEVENTH ENGAGEMENT
    • The great Ace, Major Erich Hartmann, finally meets his fate as his BF.109 K-4 bursts into a ball of fire.
    • Skalski shoots his cannons at long range and punches 6 damage into the BF.109 (1./JG77) after out maneuvering his foes.
    • The 109 shoots back in turn and mimics the Spirfire’s results, bringing to total damage of the Spitfire to 9.

    Damage Summary
    Spitfire MK.IX 9/18 Smoking
    BF.109 K-4 (1./JG77) 6/18 Rudder jam (preventing left turns)

Hartmann 19/18 KIA - On fire
Bristol Beaufighter 23/23 KIA - Engine damaged, rudder jam

    EIGHTH ENGAGEMENT
    • After many evasion maneuvers from Skalski, the Luftwaffe pilots start to close in for the kill. But, Skalski is able to fire his cannons at long range, hitting the 109 he previously damaged for another 5 points of damage, causing the rudder of the BF.109 (1./JG77) to jam, preventing left turns. The 1./JG77 is up to 11/18 total damage.

    Spitfire MK.IX 9/18 Smoking
    BF.109 K-4 (1./JG77) 11/18 Rudder jam (preventing left turns)

Hartmann 19/18 KIA - On fire
Bristol Beaufighter 23/23 KIA - Engine damaged, rudder jam

    NINTH ENGAGEMENT
    • With his rudder jammed the BF.109 (1./JG77) sets up for an Immelmann turn, hoping to catch the lone Spitfire off guard.

    FINAL ENGAGEMENT
    • Although he fought valiantly, Skalski’s Spitfire comes into the sights of the BF.109 (1./JG77) causing 13 total points of damage, taking his plane down. He was no match for the experienced Luftwaffe pilots defending Germany.
