The latest additions to my "Leutnant Helmut Pfeiffer" range, these portraying his aircraft from late 1917 into early 1918 (before the existing "Steffi"s).

Hard to tell which one is better By the way, what are the brown "skis" or "bars" on the lowest Fokker wings?

    Wing-tip skids!

The very narrow track of the landing gear, combined with the torque of the rotary engine and the lack of forward-and-downward visibility when landing, caused prototypes to be spun around on their wingtips and/or crashed when landing.

All Fokker Dr.1s had 'em (but not the three Fokker F.1s delivered to MvR, Voss and Wolff before the main production planes arrived at the front).

    Very nice.

Wing skids?...and here I thought they were wing tanks, one for scotch and the other for water.

Much finer on the real thing than on the models Dan, for obvious reasons, but once you know they're there they're easy to spot in Dr.1 photo's.
