Thread: Blue Glory/Wings of Max?

  1. #1

    Default Blue Glory/Wings of Max?

Five or six years ago I saw Blue Max in a games shop and bought it. Since then I have played one or two games with it but I always preferred Wings of Glory so it sits forlornly in my cupboard. Given our isolated status I thought it might be good to get it out and play a hybrid game using WoG rules. I used WoW Hex movement cards that I downloaded and Danjel Ricci's solo app on my phone for the German planes. I used the white on blue side of the Blue Max board for visual clarity and some balsa models with my hex bases for the games. I did have to get creative with some movements that would have sent the planes off the map but in all it was an enjoyable game.

    Thumbs up

Well that looked like fun (Especially for the old Hun) Gary.
    Interesting Balsa models mate.
    What scale?

Thanks mate for the comments and the rep. My Balsa models are all 1/144 same as Nexus/Ares. I began collecting them before I tracked down a decent "official" fleet when those models were really hard to get. I think I have about 40 odd of them. Regarding the AI victorious Huns, I am not very good at playing hex games but I do enjoy them. I have lost far more of them than I have won.

Out of curiosity where did you get the hex movement information?

    Interesting hybrid, Gary.
I purchased a Blue Max game a couple of years ago for $20 (the reissue version) to add to my collection.
I like to compare the various games to see how they handle certain aspects in their rules.
I am pretty sure Andrea used it for some of the ideas for Wings of War,

Still is, IIRC, if his username's what I think it is.

I got the hex file from here

    http://www.nirya.be/snv/rules/wings_...exified_1.html

Each manoever deck is a PDF file and there are 4 of them A-D.

For solo play, I downloaded DanjelRicci's Wog solo from the google play store. I Think Carl's (OSNN1) maneuver_generator v3.0 from this site would work pretty well too if you could separate the cards out and make up a deck of them from the pdf.

I did try this using the Blue Max rule set back in 2014 but this is the first time I think for combining both games and using WoG rules. I liked the way that Blue Max does damage modelling.

Philip, I have always been a big battletech fan. Wings of Glory has made its way to number one. Battletech is still a solid number 2 and I still love playing it. Wings of Glory is in my opinion is so much more enjoyable of a game to play because the rules are pretty easy and you can have a nice time socializing while you play.

I agree with both parts of that statement.

When we aren't social distancing, of course!
