Thread: A personal ask.

    Default A personal ask.

    Hey everyone,

I hope all of you and your families are doing well during these times. My family has been fighting some common colds, but thankfully nothing covid related.

One of the things that this virus is effecting is my son, Kiefer's birthday (April 20th). Our state is on lock down and will be until after his 10th birthday. As such he can't have any type of party or even his best friend over to stay the night. My wife and I were trying to think of a way to help make his birthday a little more special and we came up with the idea of asking our friends if they would mind sending a birthday card or note to him. We think it make the day a lot more special for him if he got a lot of cards when he was not expecting them.

Kiefer really loves history and is an avid reader (I'm very proud to say that he reads at a high school level while in just the 4th grade ), so if anyone has some old history or war books laying around he would really enjoy them. If you are so inclined to join this little effort, you can send them to the address below.

I would be happy to give some AA store credit to offset any expenses you incur for anything that you might send, be it just a simple note or a small gift.

I think this is something we could due for other member's kids if they are also going to miss out on birthday parties due to the virus.

    Thanks and fly safe everyone,

    Keith

Our medical people were saying that the virus can live for a couple of weeks on a hard surface so you should sanitize those incoming books. I do hope he has a great birthday though.

Thanks. It is a little short notice, but hopefully they will get here in time.

Good thinking. I wonder how the virus stands up to being microwaved? LOL

Pretty much anything historic/war related. He loves navel ships and likes planes a lot (kind of reverse from me). For just normal kid's stuff, Minecraft is his dig.

    Hey Keith

Is he set up on here? We could get him lots of messages that way!!!!!!! Avoids delays for postage, especially from this side of the Pond. Even if you set him up a Birthday only account?

I don't have an account setup for him, but that is a thought...

    Will look for more.

Any interest in WWI or WWII, ACW, etc.? Non-navy military history?
Thanks Eric! He actually loves all history. He has spent his own money on kid's WWI and WWII history books. I've heard him talk about which states were on which side and where the capitals were in regards to the ACW, but I don't know how much he is into it.

    Hi Keith.

If Kiefer likes aircraft and ships, to make sure he gets something from me in time pick him a present out of your stock on the Store. Let me know how much and I will pay into the store for whatever it costs.

    Hey everyone,

Sorry I've been gone this week, it has been a little hectic. Kiefer did have nice birthday, despite the lock down. In fact, he said it was one of the best he has had! He was very excited to get all the books from everyone. He has already started reading some of them. His extended family and closest friends also gave him a "birthday parade" and his grandparents brought him lunch from his favorite place. All of these things we kept as a surprise for him and I think that helped to make the day better than what he thought it was going to be!

I'd like to thank each of you again for taking part in this to make my little guy's birthday more special than it would have been otherwise.

It's surprising how less time a man have in lockdown - I know it well from my own life

Hope my book arrived on time (or just little later). Don't hasitate to ask us about such things - birthday is a big thing when you're ten

PS: I realized there is still possibility to send a package or letter by a ship instead of plane. Incredible

Great to hear it went well. Hope that I didn't spoil anything by leaving the package on the front porch... I wasn't sure what day the celebration would be . It was therapeutic to take a short drive to Peyton - very welcome!
