Kanalkampf, 13th July 1940



Blue section was ordered to stop bandits heading to Britain and defend convoy of ships. Attackers were identified as 2 Ju-87 escorted by 3 Bf-109.
S/Ldr Hess and P/O Kredba attacked Ju-87 while P/O Fechtner covered them. Unfortunately P/O Fechtner was downed by one Bf-109 at the first pass. Nevertheless, the rest of the section succeded in shooting down both Ju-87. P/O Kredba started attack while S/Ldr Hess defended 2 Bf-109. One Ju-87 was trailing smoke and leading one burning when S/Ldr Hess finished them off.



After they had destroyed Ju-87s, S/Ldr Hess and P/O Kredba fought 3 Bf-109, though having been outnumbered and quite damaged already. Having found the fight uneven and fuel tanks emptying, they left for their base and so did Bf-109 pilots. Their planes damaged 65%, 47% and 29%.
