This is my first foray into the world of WW2. Brother Bob set up his Midway scenerio and kindly sent to me a couple of the 200 scale models he obtained from Trumpeter. Whether I lost some parts or not I can no longer recall because I had this TBD Devastator for several months before I began my attempt at completion. I had the air frame you see in the first photo that Bob sent to me plus a torpedo. I would have to do everything else scratch.
First was to build a canopy from blister packaging. The development angles for cutting out the wind screen was the hard part. After that the other canopy pieces was a matter of rolling plastic around a paint brush handle. If you look closely you see that there are all the canopy pieces to enclose the cockpit.
I painted the cockpit before continuing. Also, I cut small pieces for seat separation and painted them green too!
Now that the canopy was complete and the plane given it's coat of Navy Blue it was time to add the torpedo.
The landing gear was next and I snipped off slices of a microbrush shaft for those,
Next was more painting and then adding a spinning prop - again from the blister plastic.
The decals I ordered finally arrived so I could complete the TBD.
Last was attaching a peg behind the torpedo and snapping a pic in front of my BB35 box cover!
Now there is something to compete with my Kate seen winging in over Hawaii - but that is another story.
