I couldn't find any references by searching but wondered if anyone knew of any sources for 3d printer files for aircraft, etc for home-printing ?

I have shared a couple models with friends with home printers, and we found the home printers do not do a good job with biplanes. In order to support the upper wing, a lot of little supports have to be added, and cleaning those up is a nightmare, especially when you're trying to avoid the "real" struts. Monoplanes may yield better results.
The planes printed by Shapeways use different processes that do not require supports. But those are $100,000 3D printers.
I guess it is a question of angling the model and design I h the supports. I've had some fairly intricate structures print ok with a bit of thought, haven't tried any bipanes yet as I don't have any files to hand
Monoplanes work out fine (but be careful with leading/trailing edges)
You want a biplane to try?

Scale by 0.833333 to make it 1:144
I've seen some people split them down the middle to print the wings vertically.
Splitting the model in parts and glue them together might be a good solution to avoid the post-processing process required to remove the supports. However, by properly designing the support structures you might got quite smooth surfaces.
