    Default Official Aichi E13A Jake Painting Thread

    Here is my first try on a float plane. I really enjoyed painting it and have some missions in mind for it.

    I used 3 drops of AK “Bleached Linen” to 1 drop of Vallejo ”IJA Light Grey Green” to get the base color. The weathering is a light wash using Vallejo “Light Rust”, using about 6 drops of water per drop of paint. Decals are Miscellaneous Miniatures.

    Apologies if this planes has already been painted. I looked and didn’t see any.

    PS: Perhaps because you asked me? There is this thread: Aichi E13A 'Jake'

    PPS: Steve [Roddy63] was the person that PM'ed me about the Jake, back in September of '19.

    Great Jake, Dave.
    You are becoming quite the expert at this.

    A very subtle paint scheme Dave.

    After seeing tis I checked with Dave (AIM) and just had to have one of these. The order is in. He also has the Nick as being TBR so I asked about that also. Would be a new addition to my Japanese forces.

    Should have mine next week but I don't think it will be a good looking as yours. You gave me the inspiration.

    The plane is now officially famous as it is pictured on the Miscellaneous Miniatures site under the appropriate decal sheet. I had made a special request for the red declination lines to match the paint scheme I wanted to do. Here was my inspiration;

    Yeah, I think many of us are doing the same. I have some WWI Germans and more WW2 French on my table.

    Great painting, Dave, Dave and Bob!

    With roundels like that it must have been dangerous being a Royal Thai Navy pilot. You could be shot at by both sides because Thailand sided with the Japanese although its roundels resemble European R.A.F. roundels.

    Just seeing these two additions from BobP and Caveman months later. Excellent work guys!

    Caveman, did you brush apply the Tamiya paints?

    Yes. Brush is all I do. I had picked up an airbrush a few months ago with intensions of starting down that path, but the Derecho that streaked through Iowa in August had different ideas for me. Will be sidelined from painting for a while.

    Wanted one in the dark navy green. This guy was airbrushed with Mr. Color IJN Green, (Nakajima), C-129. Underside is airbrushed with Tamiya XF-12. Panel lines were done with Flory Models black and then toned down with a Buff colored oil paint by Wilder. I’m really liking the oil paint filtering. The amount of control you have is amazing. Up close and personal, the tonal variation looks great. The picture doesn’t capture it well once it is compressed for the site.
