Thread: GAMES & TABLES FOR DONCASTER 2020

So... nothing to update from the venue, they are not open to any groups at the moment and won't be until such a time the government takes the block off..
Where does that leave us for September? unfortunately no idea at the moment, as things are not in the hands of us or the venue.

This is far from ideal, I appreciate, but unfortunately there is little that can be done at the moment apart from keeping our fingers crossed. Not helpful, I admit, but I'm afraid I dont have anymore information at this point.

errm - you can't change ammunition type in flight if your gun is belt-fed (ie everything except the Lewis and Hotchkiss).

You could have 1 belt of normal and the other of incendiary if an 'A' firer, and could then only fire as a 'B' against another plane or the other 'B' against the balloon; if you fire both guns at the balloon, you're only using 50% incendiary, so shouldn't get the same benefits as an 'A' firing "double incendiary belt" 'A' firer.
OK Thanks for that heads up Tim. Lesson learned - not sure these days how long it will be remembered though

In that case, I think I'll change the rules slightly and let teams decide which of their aircraft will be armed with incendiaries and which non-incendiary. Perhaps with a minimum number of escorts carrying the latter. No changing ammo at all. Still no attacking other aircraft with incendiaries without a penalty. How does that sound? I know now that it would be possible for the RFC aircraft to change and Tim has made his point about belt fed guns, but I want to keep it uncomplicated if I can and the same for both sides.

    Thanks again for the feedback

Right gents... had a lovely chat with the always lively Tracy at the Doncaster Air Museum this afternoon. Delighted to report that everyone is fit and well. Down to business... as it currently stands our booking is still in place, however there are at present some restrictions defined by our government. Maximum number of participants is fixed at 30 which shouldn’t pose too much of a problem but current guidelines for such establishments still have social distancing at 2 metres, which would cause us some problems. That is the situation as it stands today. HOWEVER... everything is being reviewed on September 1st ahead of the schools going back, obviously we are all hoping for a further relaxation of restrictions which would probably mean we could go ahead as planned, only problem is we won’t know until then. Normally there could be some flexibility in the rules, but the venue runs the risk of a significant fine if someone squealed so it’s not fair to expect them to run that risk...

So in summary... god knows whether we can go ahead or not, there is hope however it will be quite a short notice decision.

Well, at least there is light at the end of the tunnel Chris.
We still have our booking at the Hotel, and Eileen says we are having a weekend away whatever the situation is, so we will be baack!

That’s great to hear, it’s just so frustrating that I can’t nail things down. It means a lot to be able to host the Doncaster annual gathering And it will be a real shame if we can’t this year especially as we have lost so much this year. Good friends are hard to find and there are many good friends who we see each year.

    So fingers crossed...

I echo your sentiment about our friends entirely Chris.
I also so look forward to seeing them all each year.

I see no problems. Everyone social distancing outside (where plenty of beverage will be on hand for the hot weather), players run in 1 at a time and move their individual planes or ships. Run out again so the next player can run in and move.

Gaming and fitness in one whilst maintaining social distancing.
See you on the Dark Side......

Very amusing Neil. I love your optimism about the weather! Summer is set to fall on a weekend in September this year then.

But Neil is right, joking apart. Maybe coming up with a definite strategy for maintaining our social distance, whilst indoors, and putting that in writing, would help convince the folk at the museum that we are serious about it.
Flying hats, goggles and white scarves might be just a tad too hot to wear all weekend, so little yellow lines on the floor might work for example. Perhaps we could do that ourselves and reassure the museum staff that we'd remove them afterwards.
Only a suggestion, but I really am looking forward to this event and am prepared to work at making it happen.

Perhaps more, smaller games, around more, smaller tables would enable fewer folks to have to gather at any one location?
