Tuesday evening I met up with Dave in Farmington CT. He was there on business, bringing him to 2 ˝ hours from me. As I now live 6 hours away, I had to take advantage of his proximity.
I brought up my newest Japanese planes, three Ki-10 Perrys, to escort a Sally over Mongolia. Random assignment gave the Perry’s to Dave while I got three Polikarpov I-16s and an I-153. We flew only 1 plane each while Joaquim’s WW2 solo system flew the rest. Dave took the light grey Perry while I the green/dark green I-16, #65.
Here come the Russians!
Dave immediately turns to face the Russians closing in from 2 o’clock.
Dave’s green Perry wingman flies straight on and engages first. One Russian fires on the Perry while it sets alight another I-16.
More planes engage, the Russians getting closer to the large Sally.
The Sally now is in the middle of the fray, giving and receiving. My I-16 (the card) dips below Dave’s Perry to get a shot at the Sally well knowing Dave will Immelmann onto my tail.
Seeing my AI flight not doing well at getting on our target, I ignore Dave on my tail and do what I can to the Sally.
The green Perry keeps an I-16 busy and away from the Sally.
Caught between Dave and the Sally the damage to my I-16 begins to mount.
I stick to the Sally and see the I-153 getting closer to join the attack. Dave keeps on my tail to my discomfort.
The I-16 well behind the Sally now faces two Japanese biplanes.
The I-16 that was on fire heads home when the fire sputters out. His I-16 is too badly hurt to fight on.
To my relief, the I-153 finally gets a shot at the Sally. The damage to my I-16 is now too great to continue. I must get Dave off of my tail!
I Immelmann and get out of Dave’s gun sights while getting a little revenge on him. Unfortunately, the Sally’s tail gun gets in the shot to take me down. I now take over the I-153.
As I now close in ever so close with the Chaika on the Sally’s tail, with a squeeze of the trigger the large slow Sally wings over and heads to the ground.
Fighting outnumbered 2 to 1, the Russian finally succumbs.
As soon as the Sally falls, I put some distance between Dave and myself. I Immelmann to join in the joust. I take engine damage! Time to head for home.
Now flying at a speed just enough to keep aloft, I fear Dave will soon be on my tail before I can make my exit.
As soon as Dave gets into long range, he takes aim, and hits my engine again. The propeller immediately stops and my Chaika glides downward before being drawn into a fatal spin.
