Another great photograph, Barry! I wonder why only one engine cowling has a chequered pattern.
Thats purrrrrrdy.
This is 'Sally B' based at Duxford. The chequered cowl is in memory of Ted White who in 1980 along with Elly Salingboe, founded the Sally B Supporters Club in order to raise funds to get a B17 operational in the UK. Unfortunately Ted was killed in 1982 when he crashed in his Harvard at an air rally in Malta. Sally B has the same chequered cowl as his Harvard as a memorial.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Lovely photo!
Also, a fitting tribute to Mr White.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
As a star of the film Mephis Belle you've all seen Sally B before ! What a cracker
"He is wise who watches"
Lovely, lovely, lovely.......................................................
Another (very) nice one Barry Also to you Dave for the other (very) nice pic!
Even after all those years, her shapes are so elegant. Some ladies can't get old (you know who I'm talking about, you Supermarine girl).
Nice!
The mighty Fortress!
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Truly a gorgeous plane - glad we ended up with two pics of it on the thread. The black and yellow cowling tribute is nice to know about, too!
All the best,
Matt
Thank you for the explanation about the engine cowling, Barry. It is a nice tribute to pay to such a loyal supporter of the aircraft.
The wife got to fly on that plane and she loved it. I flew on the Yankee Lady so a B-17 flight is fantastic.
