AAR #1 - Dogfight One old face returned and a new face arrived for a total of eight players. We started with a late war dogfight: JohnM flew a SS D.III, CrashCraig a Fokker D.VII, JohnE a captured Sopwith Camel, and I had a Fokker D.VII, while BalticBob flew Nieuport 28, Jim a Sopwith Camel, Todd an S.E. 5a and BobP flew another Nieuport 28. Here is most of the lineup at the beginning of the game.

JohnE and I were not sure if we would have overlapping airplanes, but there was a small gap between us. So nose to nose, we hosed each other. My damage was not severe.

And BalticBob in his first combat draws a Boom card. He is a magnet for them.

JohnM waves as he passes Todd's crashed aircraft. CrashCraig has broken up heaps for both British and German planes.

I had sustained 14 points of damage and was heading for the German side of the table. BobP was trying to make it to his own side, when JohnM, with his fire finally out and still flying, manages to shoot down his Nieuport 28 at extreme range. The Germans make a clean sweep

    Nicely presented, Robert.

P.S. I like the downed aircraft marker.

AAR #2 - Bombs Away! After much wrangling, three Italian Caproni bombers take off to destroy at least 2 out of 3 Austro-Hungarian ammo dumps. Four A-H Albatros D.IIIs and one captured Sopwith Camel (this aircraft really gets around) are defending. BobP, Todd and myself and flying the bombers.

Here, not even halfway to the targets, JohnM rules afoul of Todd's Caproni. He respawned in the far corner and it took him awhile to return to the fray.

Todd goes left, I go right and BobP comes in from the far left to line up on the targets. JohnE in his captured Sopwith is on fire. Earlier in the game JohnE discovered that it was possible to be hit by both Caproni gunners at the same time.

JohnE explodes while Jim is now on fire. Those bombers can be nasty.

While drawing his A damage card because of the fire, Jim draws an explosion card. Notice his total damage at that point was quite low.

Todd makes a successful bomb run on the middle target. The target card is one in the files section of the forums. However, Todd did not declare in advance what his bomb choice was, so the opposition declared it to be full bomb load. Todd is out of bombs, but he still has those nasty gunners.

Due to seismic activity during the game, I found that my Caproni was not lined up on the target I thought I was aligned for. So I made a some left turns to head for another target. However, I took fire damage. Rather that zigzag to the target, I decided to fly straight and that the penalty for flying straight while on fire. That finally caught up with me short of the target.

Meanwhile Todd's giant battle plane shoots down JohnE's respawned Albatros. That is twice in one game.

And unfortunately BobP doesn't make it to his target.

So, one target was destroyed but four A-H airplanes were shot down. A marginal Italian victory?

If I was Todd, I would have pointed out that he placed the single bomb side of the card ...

"BB" no longer stands for Baltic Bob. His nic name is now 'Boom-boom'. He's earned it.
