Thread: Climb Rate

    Default Climb Rate

I haven't been able to find this information any where, so does anyone know what the climb rates for the ME109E-3, Spitfire, Hurricane and Stuka were?

Sorry about not making that clear.

For instance does it take the spitfire 15 minutes to climb to 4000 meters?

This article includes a chart comparing the climb performance of the Spitfire I and the Bf 109E:

It can be challenging to ferret out technical information online. There are many books that give at least elementary technical specs for a wide selection of historical aircraft. You might want to invest in one or two:

Depends which mark of Spitfire of course - wings/engines/ load-out were different - but Google 'climb rate Spitfire' & have a root around...
I've seen rates from 2,150ft/min for early types to 2,600ft/min for a Mk.Vb so 5-6 mins to the height you're looking at. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermarine_Spitfire
It probably took them 15 mins from scramble to contact. ie jump in, take-off, climb to area of op, locate & engage enemy.

The article you provided the link to, Irv, would seem to support the contention some of us have that the climb rate for the Spitfire Mk.I on the Ares list should be 3 not 4.

    Yes, it does.
