Thread: Flight Club - 02/'20 at Entoyment, Poole

  1. #1

Default Flight Club - 02/'20 at Entoyment, Poole

The third meeting of Flight Club is set to go ahead on Saturday 29th February 2020 at Entoyment Poole for some further WGF madness that any forum member, or, local WoG player to come and join in with.

This time I will manage the table - so get your name down & let me know if you're able to attend.
Cost to cover the tables will be a couple of quid a head on the day to be paid to flash on arrival please.

For those not familiar with the location the address is: Entoyment, Unit 2, Fleetsbridge Business Centre, Poole BH17 7AF; opens at 10.00, takeoff shortly after that, and we're usually spent by 17.00.

This is not a demo/participation like we'd usually put on but a day for us to get into some more involved gaming and play some bigger, longer, WW1 scenario type games than we may usually get.

I will update an idea of content nearer the time but as they go down so well there will be more one hour dogfights in the mix and maybe an opportunity to fly something you don't have or don't use too often.

If anyone has a scenario they'd like to put on for this event please PM me

If you want to see how the last ones went have a look here:

Great turn-out last time, Dave - hope the crowd is as large this next time! So glad you are close to the game store that 'feeds' your addiction...

    All the best,

Thanks Matt, it's a great opportunity for forum members to meet and to game outside of the Aerodrome scene of wargame shows.

It looks like a great location, Dave - I seem to remember you lauding the size of the place and the depth of product they carry. It is so nice to have a 'full-service' hobby shop/game store close at hand. There is nothing like being able to go into a FLGS and actually 'see' what you are interested in, not to mention others playing those games.

I will look forward to your reports from the February session.

    All the best,
    Matt

Good to hear Alex - This is not an "open" Entoyment event so the cost to cover the tables will be a couple of quid a head on the day to be paid to me on arrival please.

Dave, would you mind sharing the format for your 'one-hour dogfights'? Either here or in a PM, if you prefer... It sounds like it might be something the folks in our group might enjoy from time to time.

    All the best,

Chaps, I'm afraid I may need to hold off of this one at short notice - my apologies.

Diagnosed as having shingles by my GP on Tuesday, which means that not only am I on some meds which are making me lightheaded at times, but more importantly there's a risk - small, but nevertheless - that I'll be contagious. (Not, not coronavirus before someone says it!)

Given there are always kids around at Entoyment, and several of you have kids yourselves, I don't want to expose anyone to the risk, however slight, of passing on chicken pox.

I'll be sorry to miss it, and I look forward to seeing some of the shannanigans here in due course!

Have fun, and catch you chaps at the next one.

Big thanks to everyone who could make it, though diminished in numbers we were not diminished in spirit and managed four games on the day.
Special thanks to our long distance flyers Mike and Tim, who, as always, let us blood some of his toys !
This FC top gun was Andy (sauerkraut) who showed an unnerving talent for setting his opponents on fire this time out and scored in all the games....

Dave (flash) : 3 (did better with a Gotha making a wrong turn than with fighters !)
Andy T (Sauerkraut) : 5 (kills in all four games)
Andy B (Sherlochnumber1) - 0 (Sole RFC survivor in first dogfight)
Hobz (Yellow Peril) - 0 (German survivor in first dogfight)
Tim (Flying Helmut) - 2 (top scorer last dogfight)
Mike (mikeemagnus) - 3 (top scorer & German survivor in the first dogfight)
Sean (Algonquin?)- 2 (new local player - scored in both matches he played)

I will post some pics tomorrow if I get some time.

Another fantastic days gaming at Flight Club. Massive Thank you to Dave (Flash) for organising the event and thank you to all who attended and contributed to the fun. Was great to fly some more unusual aircraft today - DH2, Albatros D1 and Hannover CLIII as well as the more common SE5a. It would also seem that I may have been using Incendiary ammo today, managing to set four opponents ablaze - sorry.
Looking forward to the next one.

We play without altitude, respawns, or, tailing.
We play with Split-S; blind spots; Aim; and the boom card as half start damage rounded up.

    ****************************************************************

    Scenario 1:

A pair of Gotha run the gauntlet of SE5a's to bomb the industrial railway yard..

The table's set - another local takes a keen interest & may be persuaded to join in our Wednesday night adventures.
    Name: SAM_1663.JPG
Views: 288
Size: 194.6 KB

me & Tim took the Gotha's, I had the green one & Tim the lozenge. After a couple of turns there was some concern & anticipation that we had got it horribly wrong..
    Name: SAM_1666.JPG
Views: 273
Size: 207.8 KB

Nah ! We've got this... Not even an overlap...Phew !!
    Name: SAM_1667.JPG
Views: 278
Size: 138.9 KB

Meantime the SE's had moved out to each side of the table - we flew into the gap provided & they wrapped around behind us closing fast.
    Name: SAM_1668.JPG
Views: 284
Size: 213.6 KB
Hobz in C got some shots off then overlapped, Andy B in A was doing his best to pepper us. Mike in D & Andy T in B had a go at Tim

Hobz managed to wriggle out form under & we swapped lumps, I picked up a wounded pilot; Andy B caught up and we set each other on fire...
    Name: SAM_1669.JPG
Views: 476
Size: 217.0 KB

Bombs gone ! I plastered the cluster of buildings alongside the rail yard - Hobz is under my nose (used Any's card), Andy B is burning nicely alongside & Mike is rapidly catching me up.
Tim had taken heavy damage and took avoiding action hoping to throw off his tormentor hoping to slip past for his run in.
    (see his base in background)

Size: 224.4 KB

Andy B burns out and falls
    Name: SAM_1671.JPG
Views: 316
Size: 195.4 KB

I intended to break right but instead had picked a left turn - the consequences were a close range kill shot on Hobz & I avoided Mike - win, win !
    Name: SAM_1672.JPG
Views: 295
Size: 218.6 KB

I reversed the turn at the beginning of the next turn, sadly Tim was felled by Andy T and we called it there as it was pressing for lunch - I survived the fire but doubt I'd have survived the run home with only a pair of points remaining.

I was top gun for that scenario with 2 victories & Andy T had the only other.

    *************************************************************

After a leisurely lunch we played a tandem bombing scenario involving three Hannover's v five Camels and were joined by Sean one of our local Wednesday night group who is relatively new to WoG.

    So here are the Camels.

The rest of us turned back to look for Andy B as he returned to the fray in the third Hannover.

Great action ( and a prelude to the Cocky Young Men scenario)
It will be interesting to compare the results with the upcoming solo versions.

    A lot to like:
The various customized aircraft (reminds me I have N.17s to make into RFC)
The awesome smoke and fire markers - especially the one on the Gotha
    Great photos of the action.

    Well done all!

Thanks Mark, it's given us a chance to play all sorts of scenarios / planes with experienced players, it's intro'd most of the show going team at this end of the country with the local chaps at Entoyment, encouraged them to join the forum and, hopefully, to do some shows with us too.
