Thread: Jasta 30 cards

    Default Jasta 30 cards

I was wondering if anyone had done aircraft cards for Jasta 30, specifically either or both of Ltn. Hans-Georg von der Marwitz's Pfalz D.IIIs?

I looked in the files section and came up lacking.

    Thanks

Darn. Because I use a common template, I went back and looked at a few of my new 2-sided cards. A lot of them need fixing.

These two are some of the first:

[Edit: Amended "Aircraft Type" (Pfaltz IIIA) to match aircraft drawing shown in image]

    Spell check, please?

Ultra-nit-pick............... with that tail horizontal stabilizer shape, I think these should be D.IIIa, not D.III ?

The Pfalz D.III had a smaller. squared-off tail empennage

The Pfalz D.IIIa had an enlarged, curve-fronted tail empennage

Your cards just need an "a" after the D.III name

The sad part about the Internet, there are no referees. This drawing is one of several, and of the few I have, all appear to be IIIa, but are labeled as either:

Yes, nothing muddies the waters quite like the internet!

That line drawing of yours is confusing - DEFINITELY a D.IIIa tail - in addition to the larger tail, you should be able to clearly see the machine guns having been moved to the upper deck of the cowling, where the pilot can unjam them. The side view shows no evidence of this.

Whether a plane is the D.III or the D.IIIa has a potentially large bearing on the game, as the "Unreachable Machine Guns" option card, which so badly handicaps the D.III, CANNOT be used with the later, improved D.IIIa variant.

Perhaps this drawing might be more suitable for a Pfalz D.III:

    Oops! Still a D.IIIa!

    Darn Interweb!

OK. So, now I know there is a difference in the versions of the plane. Are the two above supposed to be 'III's, or 'IIIa's?

The easier fix is to add an 'a', rather than redo the paint schemes. However, I will do whichever is 'correct'.

    They should be D.IIIa's

Just add an "a" to each and they're sorted!

Post #8 images updated as per discussions. Because I deleted the originals, the following discussion posts are now missing the quoted images, too.
