So Mrs Clipper and I had a fun lunch visit with some friends a few weeks ago. Our host knows I am airplane history addict and after dessert he brought out this old book.

It had been written and illustrated by a friend of our host right after WWII was over and all the prisoners had made it home. Our host's father had been a navigator on a B-17 that had been shot down in 1943 and spent a few weeks on the run, but eventually was captured and spent the last few years of the war in Luft Stalag One. He received the book from the author and cell mate. What else I found fascinating was the content of the book. The illustrations are wonderful depictions of life there. Here are a few:

What a great book, Dave! The drawings remind me a little of Bill Maulden's stuff in Up Front - my dad had an old copy that I read when I was a kid...

Always great to see a sample of the post-war 'remembrance' literature produced for soldiers by soldiers...

    All the best,
    Matt

    Wonderful stuff!

The drawings remind me of Spike Milligan's sketches in his war books.

Nice find, thanks for sharing! I recently got a book called The Escape Artists about some WW1 soldiers escaping a prison camp.
