What a busy month, I want to perfect the look of my martian cylinder, I've got 8 Valum models to build, and I'm putting ideas together for a martian cockpit. All of that is on hold however because my wife insists that I get the remodel of our stairs done before we decorate for Christmas.

Great stuff, Ken - are you doing the ships for yourself or a customer? What scale and manufacturer?

Bob - I look forward to hearing what you think of the TANKS models...I am finding them a lot of fun and a nice change of pace...

Matt I used to play TRACKTICS and used 1/72 scale tanks. I built quite a few of them...ESCI/Hasagawa/Matchbox/Fujima but then I was younger and eyes were better. The TANKS models look simpler, less parts. I have some of the new Revell 1/72 models and the parts are so small I gave up trying to build them. Fewer parts easier to build. Game looks good and a quick play.

    Matt,

These ships are the new Warlords Black seas plastic models, about 1/700 scale. It is a new release and has only been out a few months. A bit pricey but the ships are really nice if a bit limited in the line still. From the stock outs the company is having it seems to be selling REALLY well. Suspect with a little work on custom built bases they could be used for Sails of Glory allowing people to grow their fleets faster. Downside is a different scale and none of the extras needed.

As for the owner, mine, all mine...

Fantastic! Year's ago I self published a book for teachers on building model airplanes with kids. Sold 200 of them, it is quite amazing to see them build and fly their models, ah, when I was younger . . .

I can't look at it, it is too tempting! They are so cool! I have two large trunks full of sails and several castings of new ships and sails and bits, all long neglected, sadly may never see the waves and epic sea battles they deserve . . . Awe what a bad mood, must find some better therapy, where did Mrs Clipper hide the G&T?

Matt I picked up a couple (6) TANKS. The one thing I like is that you can do different versions of 1 of the tanks. The Valentine has 3 different turrets you can make but only 2 can be done at one time. I like the Puma so have to get another one to make the 75 AT version. I guess we might see a game or two at Origins.

It took longer than the advertised drying time for the first round of clay to dry, but this weekend I was finally satisfied that it had. Here is the partially buried Martian cylinder with a second application of Model Magic - I imagine it will take most of the week for it to dry again. Hopefully, I will be able to begin applying finishing 'groundwork' on it this weekend. Once that is done, it shouldn't take too long to finish it up.

I bought some battery-powered tealights today and some green mylar to try and rig up some sort of interior 'green glow'...more on that as I experiment...

Matt, before it dries have you thought of coating sand or flocking on the clay? When it dries it would have a more natural texture that way to paint and drybrush.

It is actually a pretty dry clay, Ken, and any sort of gravel or flocking wouldn't stick to it by itself. Coating it with some sort of adhesive would allow that, but I worry that it would 'seal' it prematurely and slow down/inhibit drying. Once it is dry, I will seal it and build up the crevices to smooth things out. My hope is it will turn out as I'd like () once all is said and done - it looks pretty different right now than I hope it will when finished...

    All the best,
    Matt

You may recognize that mat Andy from several Christmas's ago. I was just wondering how the tripods would get on in the Desert. All those soft sand dunes and sinking sand too. I am now looking out for a suitable back drop and must start work on more tanks.

Not really Ken, the donor is Udet, paint out his markings, paint the wing uppers, paint out the white stripe under the top wing, apply white decals & finishes, done in an evening, job's a good 'un !
