Thread: Aussie Spitfires.

    Exclamation Aussie Spitfires.

We are fortunate to have two great Spitfires over here based at the Temora (Western NSW) Air Museum.
Here is a nice photo of both at a recent Show.
    Enjoy!

    Default Thanks

Nice one (well two actually) as usual. I don't recognise the black and white markings. Can you identify?

I think it is really a Blue disc with a white circle in the middle, which was the type of roundel used by British and Commonwealth aircraft in the Pacific theatre because 'trigger happy' anti-aircraft gunners were shooting at planes with the red spot in the middle of the roundel thinking they were Japanese.

    Great photograph!

    Great photograph!
Correct David. The Blue shows dark in that photo.
Another thing the Aussies did was paint the whole tail white as when they first arrived over New Guinea they were greeted by AA fire. The gunners were not good at Aircraft recognition!

Gorgeous shots, as always, Baz! that white tail on the P-40 is definitely striking, and the Spits look mighty tasty

    All the best,
