Thread: Zeppelin Staaken markings

    Default Zeppelin Staaken markings

Looking for some advice regarding markings used on Zeppelin Staakens. I have recently bought one, and as this is the third midel in our gaming group with the same colour scheme, I am looking for an easy but historical way to distinguish it.
Did the R-planes use the same white bands on the upper wing for Staffel leaders?

Good question. As far as I have ever found there were few missions of multiple bombers from a squadron like we are used to, mostly a rounding up of what was available at the time. Maybe a number on the fuse like the Gotha Bombers . . . ?

According to Wikipedia, eighteen Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI's were built with serial numbers R.25 to R.39 and R.52 to R.54. R.30 was used exclusively as a supercharged engine test bed. There is a photograph showing R.38 bearing that number on its fuselage but there are others, which do not show a serial number.

Let me know where you get them from and what number you decide to use and Simon and I can add different numbers to ours.

    What about that:

White rub-on letters. They are available in 2 and 4 mm and there are also numbers available. Pro model builders use them in addition to painted/sprayed markings as there isn't any film visible.
