The Second Saturday snuck up on us (errr...me) and I neglected to get a notice up about our montly gaming plans...or perhaps the Forum being incapacitated for a couple of days was the reason? Yeah, I'll go with that excuse...
In any event, six of us made the trek to Epic Loot on a snowy Saturday yesterday to gambol about the skies over the game table. We flew an American Bregeut and two escorting SPAD XIIIs aginst three Fokker DVIIs.
The Bregeut made it all the way down the table, photographed its assigned target, and all the way back, as well as shooting down two Fokkers! Well done, Rick! But they were only out of the fight for a turn before respawning and coming back for more. The Germans had the short end of the stick on this mission, in spite of the fact that only one Boom Card was drawn. Quite the even dust-up, all things considered. I find that getting used to the long straights and shallow curves of the SPAD takes some work - I must fly one more often.
Our second game pitted Abatrosses against SPAD VIIs - again, the SPAD maneuver cards changed my attempts at dogfighting. This was a much more even fray, with us tangling for about an hour and a half with no one being shot down. Several of us found ourselves swanning about on the edges for a couple of turns trying to return to the fight - those rudder jams and pesky fire cards definitely throw a kink in the best-laid maneuver plans!
This picture is representative of the second game - lots of milling about with little to average damage being caused. I am sure a couple of the other chaps will post better pictures to fill out the scene.
Again, we are lucky to have a great group of folks to play with in our neck of the woods. It's always a fun time
All the best,
Matt
