Thanks Rob! Took Mrs Clipper out for a belated birthday of craft and book shopping, found a few things of interest for this crew. First a set of drawstring chit bags, 4 for $4 3.5" x 3.5" at Hobby Lobby
And this latest tome of the unknowns of the Luftwaffe . .
And somehow this got added . . . Gotta talk to those elves . . .

I was wondering if that carrier was the Zepp, Figured it was either that or the Jap one built on the Yamato hull.
Got a few more figs done today.
Command for the Romans I finished last week and a bunch of M4's for my FoW US army I played in a tourney this weekend. Had to play em without weathering or decals as I built, painted, and washed them the night before the tourney.
Good to see the progess on the Zeppelins (and that there is a potential KM Zeppelin in your future...)
Loving that cast-hull Sherman action, Ken! I have a few of those to complete, too
All the best,
Matt
I picked up TANKS at FALL IN (like I need a new game). Bought the basic game and bought 1 expansion, Pzkw IV and got picked a Sherman for a freebee. Even at the con GF9 had a small selection for the TANKS game. Noticed that there are no decals for any of them. Have to go to the LGS- 25 miles away- and see if they have decals since they sell Flames of War stuff.
Ask him if and when they will have French tanks for the game. That would another good addition.
Will ask, our family Thanksgiving video call is due tomorrow. Put the Graf on hold, just ordered the Kagero book on it, they are awesome references . . .
I put a game together on the 27th and was able to test the cockpits and we did a martian cylinder scenario (I didn't get pictures of that). I was only able to put together 3 cockpits but the guys that used them really liked how easy it was to keep track of everything. I may need to look into buying my own laser so I can make these available to everyone. I will post the martian cylinder scenario in the T&T area but I think it was very fun.
Your cockpits look superb in action Robert.

What scale are the tanks Matt?

They are 15mm plastic tanks for the TANKS! game, Rob. Lovely little models with lots of detail...I am having fun with them, and doing them in batches of four or five seems to be working out nicely.
All the best,
Matt
Bit too big for my Desert ops then Matt.
That is a shame because they look just great.
Very well finished. Capt Kiwi does a lot of Tanks in many scales. I will have to pick his brains over painting the little scamps.

Are you using micro-armor for your Desert War targets, Rob? 1/285 to 1/300? I used to have a bunch in my younger days - GHQ and C-in-C were the manufacturers here in the States back then. I know there is a lot of it available through Shapeways...and Heroics and Ross used to make it, too, I believe. I think it's a great scale for ground targets for our WW1 and WW2 planes...
All the best,
Matt
I have collected large "Afrika Korps" and "8th Army" forces in GHQ 1/285, and now have a decent-sized Italian battlegroup, but I haven't tried to paint any of them yet.
I'm guessing that an airbrush is the best way to go, but I have never had the courage to deploy and use my airbrush/compressor combo.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Some years ago now I did a few Italian armoured cars, but not much else. I now want to do a German strike unit of tanks and support vehicles such as might be encountered on a coast road near Tobruk or El Alamein. 1:300 scale is just fine.
Thanks chaps.

Do you mean these toys, Rob?
The vehicles I used and painted are metal Flames of War minis of various types. They fit the bill of WGS.

I used to use an airbrush to paint 1/35 scale tanks, Rob, and it worked fine. But for small stuff, I can't see the sense anymore - too fiddly and easy to clog, for my tastes, and at 1/72 or smaller scales, the camo would be hard-edged - the smaller the more defined the edge. I am comfortable with spray cans, and that's how I would tackle 1/285 size vehicles - a base coat of Desert Yellow and then camo over top or washes to pick out detail and a quick dry-brush. Of course, not everyone likes or has good luck with spray cans, so use what's comfortable for you...
All the best,
Matt
I've painted a variety of micro armor for targets for my games and for Glenn's. No real issues with brush work.

All very useful stuff chaps.
That Flames of war battle group looks very good Andy. and I somehow seem to recognize the Desert playing mat too. I looked at your Album. very nice but far more vehicles for me. I just want a small unit of say six tanks with a command and support vehicles. i can see i need to start research to see how a unit was formed.
