These are mounted on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the main hull and the ventral surface of the bow. The two guns on each turret fire in tandem. They have been shown to be quite effective against targets like basestars (Resurrection Ship, Part II). These large guns are able to use both flak ammunition and high-explosive anti-capital ship shells. Additionally, the guns are able to engage in coordinated barrage strategies, such as salvo (and presumably, volley) fire.

Some of Galactica's point defense turrets

    • 514 smaller point-defense turrets (mounting 2 guns apiece)

These are mounted on the flight pods and other surfaces. Each barrel fires explosive rounds in bursts.

    • Multiple nuclear warheads

Deployed from 12 launch tubes mounted in the dorsal main hull (The Eye of Jupiter).

    • Numerous Viper space superiority fighters

Even the latest Mk. VII Vipers remain compatible with this class's launch and recovery facilities.

    • Numerous Raptor multi-role vehicles

    Fate: In current Colonial service
    Dimensions
    Length: 32.3 feet (~9.8 meters)
    Height: 9.7 feet (~3.0 meters)
    Wingspan: 18.4 feet (~5.6 meters)

These are most likely autocannon systems, with at least some models utilizing belt-fed ammunition (TRS: "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I"). The show's KEW are similar those found in real life in that they use chemical propellant to fire relatively small caliber projectiles from a single barrel at a high rate. The shells themselves can be solid, relying on their high velocities to impact and "shred" the target vehicle or fused to explode on impact. However, Viper ammunition shown on screen are also large enough to be explosive-filled and fused. A mix between armor-piercing slugs and explosive ammunition is also possible. The size of the Mark VII's guns and the profile of the rounds in motion suggest a smaller caliber than those of the Mark II, although the two have been described to share the same ammunition (TRS: "Epiphanies"); the two guns also appear to differ in their rate of fire.

Viper guns appear to be aimed entirely by the pilot during combat without the aid of any heads-up information being displayed. However, for such a weapon to be effective, the guns themselves would be harmonized (aligned for accuracy of and desired rate of fire) and the aiming system given a suitable period of deflection (the effective ability to follow, or "lead" a target into its line of fire).

    Armaments
The Viper is armed with multiple kinetic energy weapons. Both known models have weapon hard points for mounting missiles under the wings.
    Mark II
ˇ 2 forward-firing 30mm mass accelerator cannons mounted in the wing roots, each with an 800-round ammunition capacity and a 20-round-per-second fire rate
ˇ 1 forward-firing Lightning Javelin missile launcher in the belly, with an 8-round ammunition capacity
ˇ 1 to 2 missiles (In "The Hub", the Vipers are equipped with nuclear missiles, which they use to destroy the Resurrection Hub. In "The Oath", a conventional missile was fired by Narcho at the President's Raptor in an attempt to destroy it, but the missile missed and hit the Rebel Basestar instead, causing minor damage.)
    Mark VII
ˇ 3 forward-firing "kinetic energy weapons" (2 mounted on wingtips, 1 mounted on vertical stabilizer)
ˇ 2 missile launcher hardpoints (one under each wing)
1 to 2 missiles (In "The Hub", the Vipers are equipped with nuclear missiles, which they used to destroy the Resurrection Hub

    Raptor
Raptors are usually unarmed, but can be outfitted with nuclear and conventional missiles - either carried under the wings or in a small bomb-bay on the underside - as well as a variety of fuselage-mounted weapon pods containing missiles or cannons.
In addition they are equipped with a number of defensive systems like decoy drones, chaffs, flares and an ECM suite.

    Heavy Raider

    Race: Cylon
    Type: Military
    FTL: Yes
    Propulsion: * 8x sublight boosters
    * RCS thrusters
    Crew: Approx. 10
    Role: * Dropship
    * Gunship
    Armaments: * 2x tri-barreled automatic cannons
    * Ship to ship missiles

The Cylon Raiders carry at least two KEWs of similar caliber to those of the Mk II Vipers. However, there are also two smaller barrels visible on their underside, making for two barrels of different sizes per side. It is possible that these are smaller caliber KEWs. Whereas the larger caliber KEW could be firing explosive rounds, smaller caliber KEWs could be firing slugs. The scene in which Kara Thrace loads the captured Cylon Raider in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I" would seem to support the four gunned Raider hypothesis, as the rounds she is loading are too small for the larger, more prominent barrels' bores, but about right for the smaller barrels. Furthermore, in "Epiphanies", Viper ammunition is shown to be a typical autocannon round in the 30mm neighborhood, and a much closer match for the Raiders' larger barrels (although they look a little large for the Vipers' gun barrels).
Visual effects, however indicate that only two cannons are firing. It is also possible that two of the barrels are sensors of some kind, and that that there is simply a size mismatch between the ammunition and the physical Raider model.
The distinctive glow of this ordnance - red for the Colonials and blue for the Cylons - is the result of interspersed tracer ammunition, used as visual targeting aid by the pilots .
An armory exists to produce new ammunition on the ship (TRS: "Epiphanies").

    Missiles

While Vipers usually rely on their cannons, they can be equipped with missiles - conventional and nuclear - when needed.
Shortly after the attack on the Twelve Colonies, a Raider fires three nuclear missiles from internal bays at Galactica (TRS: "Miniseries").
During the ground portion of the Battle of Kobol, Centurions cannibalize parts of their Heavy Raider in order to create an anti-aircraft missile battery, which is later used to attack a search and rescue mission launched from Galactica (TRS: "Fragged").
Vipers can be seen using missiles during the Battle for the Tylium Asteroid (TRS: "The Hand of God"), in a training exercise (TRS: "Home, Part I"), and during the Battle of New Caprica, where they are used to destroy Centurion guard towers (TRS: "Exodus, Part II") and during Gaeta's Mutiny in an attempt to take down President Roslin's Raptor. (TRS: "Blood on the Scales")
During the Battle of the Resurrection Hub, several Vipers are armed with nuclear missiles (presumably supplied by the Cylons) and use all of them to destroy the Resurrection Hub and two guarding basestars at the conclusion of the battle. (TRS: "The Hub")

    Excellent stuff, Neil!

    Additional:

    Cylon Raider - missiles

In the re-imagined Miniseries pilot, an entire Viper Mk,VII squadron from 'Galactica' was destroyed by just two Cylon Raiders using a single salvo of missiles; that must mean at least six missiles per Raider, possibly more.

Update on Viper MK II: (another source)

    Armament

Main article: Weapons in the Re-imagined SeriesThe Mark II is equipped with two 800 rd. Thraxon MEC-A6 30mm Mass Accelerator Cannons (MECS), as it's primary weapon. These cannons are capable of firing 20 rounds per second and are augmented with orange tracers, which enable the pilot to see where the rounds are going, and adjust their aim accordingly [5].
These cannons are supplemented with a storage bay capable of holding up to eight Lightning Javelin missiles capable of carrying conventional or up to 50 megatons of nuclear tipped warheads

    Basestar:
A basestar is capable of launching conventional or nuclear missiles from 220 turret launchers mounted throughout the arms and central axis that pivot to allow the basestar to fire in any direction. Basestar-launched nuclear strikes against Colonial ships are usually carried out before Raider deployment. One example of a Cylon nuclear attack involved three Cylon basestars that ambush the battlestar Pegasus. They open their attack firing several nuclear missiles before deploying Raiders and switching to a non-nuclear salvo (The Captain's Hand).

A basestar's complement of Raiders is estimated as high as 792 fighters, not counting fighters in repair or otherwise off-line. It should be noted that there are a total of 864 Raider launch slots on the arms of a pre-retconned Basestar. In comparison, the retconned Basestar has only 434 Raider launch slots, a dramatic decrease from the previous version.
This tactic, along with the massive numbers of Raiders that a basestar can unleash, suggest a reliance on overwhelming force to destroy a foe. It is probable that basestars use nuclear weapons to destroy the bulk of the Colonial Fleet (using their CNP back-doors to compromise their defenses first) in the opening wave of their destruction of the Colonies.
After the Colonial commanders draw away their Raider wings, two basestars are torn apart by the kinetic guns of the battlestars Pegasus and Galactica in a joint mission to destroy a Cylon Resurrection Ship. It would seem that that basestars rely heavily on their Raiders for close-range gun defense. Since a basestar does not appear to have point-defense batteries, or heavy armoring, it seems quite vulnerable to battlestars in close-range combat when fighter support is not prominent (Resurrection Ship, Part II). From this, it can be theorized that basestars are designed primarily as carriers for the massive fleet of Raiders they carry, rather than as a front-line main battleship. Their reliance on long-distance attacks with missiles and their complement of Raiders, as well as their overall fragility seem to support this.
It would also appear that basestars possess an automated self-destruct system that triggers in the event that no living Cylons remain aboard
