Thread: Three tears of the Emperor

    Three tears of the Emperor

Dave came over Sunday the 20th. We tried out a scenario where one patrol was jumped by the other. A die roll could alert the unawares flight early. They had to fly straight and slow until alerted of shot at.

We randomly chose sides and who was being jumped…lucky me!

3 Oscars were returning from a patrol around Tioman Island off the east coast of Malaysia. Not having seen any enemy they had let their guard down on the flight home.
A flight of 2 Buffalos joined with a Gladiator on their way home from their patrol along the coast. They spotted the Oscars and maneuvered so they would attack out of the sun.

Suddenly Kikuo’s Oscar rocked under the accurate fire from the RAF’s experienced Buffalo pilot. (5 points damge!)

Mitsugu wants his flight to use their superior turning but the Buffalos reverse right on him. Mitsugu is pounded and is frustrated that he cannot return fire at all.

Mitsugi turns hard but ends up directly in front of a Buffalo. Bullets riddle the length of his plane, some penetrating the cockpit wounding Mitsugi.
Reizo finds himself on the receiving end from the other two RAF planes.

The flight leader’s Oscar doesn’t last long. Mitsugi fights with the controls with all his might but slams into the ocean’s surface at full speed.

Kikuo and Reizo cannot see their flight leader and are too occupied lining up shots to talk to each other to form a plan.

Kikuo knows his wounded Oscan cannot defeat three British and decided to break off. Before he can, a

The news of the unfortunate patrol reaches the ear of the Emperor during an operations debriefing. The Emperor held his composure and only he felt the three tears slowly running down his cheek.

Nice AAR Peter, and very evocative narration!

I do like to see 'out of the ordinary' planes in action.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!

Thank you for the good A.A.R., Peter. Was the rule of the ambush that the Japanese could only spot the R.A.F. planes once the firing started?

We gave them a 1/3 chance to spot them before they fired. It took 3 turns to close but I didn't spot them. When they started firing it was too late!

Yes it was! It went too fast for my poor Oscars.

The early position and some good shots put the Japanese at a huge disadvantage from the start. The Buffalos’ are also a pretty tough plane. I don’t think we balanced it well from the start. The Oscars didn’t know we were there until it was too late! It was still a lot of fun and I always enjoy flying Peter’s awesome planes win, lose, or draw!

    Thumbs up

Good one Pete! Actually nice to see a Allied victory for that time frame. Sorry you were on the receiving end.

I like that the Buffalos can put up a fight. Dave flew them well and handed it to me. It happens to all of us and will again.

    Went like a surgical operation.
    Bad luck old chap.
I hope I do better against Von Kiwi today.
