Thread: New Squadron Packs

  1. #1

    Default New Squadron Packs

I picked up a couple of the Squadron Packs (WGS4XX series) planes and was impressed with the options I had. It got me to thinking about what other famous units there are, that I would like to see.
    Here is my short list;

The Escadrille Americaine/La Fayette Escadrille - Nieuport 11, SPAD VII or Nieuport 17
94th Aero Squadron - Hat in the Ring Squadron - Nieuport 28 or SPAD XIII
32nd Fighter Group/99th Pursuit Squadron -The Red Tails - P-47 Thunderbolt or P-51B/C or D Mustang
First American Volunteer Group - Flying Tigers - P-40B Tomahawk
    VMF-214 - Black Sheep - Vought F4U-1A Corsair

    Thoughts?

Flying Tigers and Black Sheep would "fly" off the shelves (if they ever actually got there from pre-sale)

But Ares marketing will no doubt come up with something else to keep the shelves overstocked ..

I even see them: Handley Page Halifax, Wellington, He 219 Uhu, all highly WGS playable.

Breath, Andrzej, breath. I guess you did not hear about Prague Night Rules yet:

You need a large mirror, at least of size of two mats. You put it on the table on the garden / park / outdoor and start playing a game just with sunset. There will be a beautiful scenery on the "mats" and getting dark gets you more into night rules. Right above the target, defending side can use a flashlight for 2 seconds per move and aim their targets.

The only bad thing is you can not use these rules on the other side of Polar Circle during Polar Day

I know, I have these already. My thought would to expand on them and not have to do a lot of detail work. Using more famous units would make research easier to get to 5 or 6 different planes from each unit. Its all in the details.

We have been waiting years for the promised Corsair models. I think that a 'Pappy' Boyington model is very likely and would be immensely popular but that more likely candidates for squadron packs are aircraft from the Battle of Midway.

I still think we got screwed on the Dauntlesses by not getting Swede Vejtasa, who made ace in one.

^^^^ Not that I'll ever buy a Dauntless, but what was up with the French paint scheme? Attempting to appeal to the European market? Does that plane ever leave the peg, except for repaints?

Dunno, but dude, Swede and the other Dauntless Ace woulda made you want their planes. Making ace in a BOMBER? That's major bada**... and both those guys got transferred to fighters.

Warlord Games publish squadrons after squadrons of 1:200 fighters (Corsairs included) in their Blood Red Skies line on a nearly monthly basis...
