Thread: Stowe Maries Airfield new aircraft

Default Stowe Maries Airfield new aircraft

On Wednesday I saw on their Faceache page that Stowe Maries had received a new addition - an Albatros D.Va replica painted in the colours of Otto Kissenberth. As Stowe is on my doorstep (compared to Doncaster....) it seemed rude not to go and take a look.

It was built by The Vintage Aviator Limited of N.Z. - Peter Jackson's outfit - and owned by a German. It will be hangered at Stowe for the foreseeable. Also owned by the German chappie is the 'new' Be2e.

Close-up of the gun mount for Mike (Mikeemagnus) who was asking me about gun mounts some time ago.

I called this Be 'new' because it has replaced the original Be2 at Stowe which, along with their Sopwith Snipe, got caught up in the TVAL/Gene DeMarco debacle and both had to be returned to N.Z. Here is a pic of the original

and a pic of Stowe's original Albatros which unfortunately lost an argument with a hedge some time back and is being repaired

After an excellent lunch in the airfield Mess, a quick inspection of the second-hand book shop snared me these for the princely sum of £2.

All in all, I can think of worse ways to spend a wet Friday afternoon.

    Thanks for the report, Steve!

    That new Albi is gorgeous!

I've never been to Stowe Maries - really must find the time...…..

Gorgeous planes, to be sure, Steve! The Albatros in particular is stunning. Lucky you living close to all these cracking places!
