Default Taking to the air again!

I know it's short notice, but the Wright Flight is once again taking to the air at Dragon's Guildhall in Beavercreek, Ohio, for our second Third Thursday Air Extravaganza

We added this 3rd Thursday gaming session each month to allow some of our usual suspect who can't make Saturdays a chance to game again. Tomorrow it looks like Jim is supplying the Gotha bombers as they travel to London to allow us to use the HD fighters of our choice to bring the big guys down - should be a fun 'Turkey Shoot'...

We will get there around 6 PM and be flying shortly thereafter - join us, if you are so inclined!

    All the best,
    Matt

Our first game last night was a Stop the Gothas! game, with Jim's new daylight Gotha repaints taking on a British Home Defense mish-mash - Jim flew the bombers and we all brought our favorite British planes to try and shoot him down.

In the first shot you see my trusty Sopwith Camel (repainted for Collishaw's) alongside Bill's (oldguy) F2B setting out to intercept the Hun Horde...

...a long shot of the Horde approaching - those bombers look really cool spanning the table-top...and pretty imposing, too!

Head-on into the Belly of the Beast - look away, Rob, 'thar be flames aloft'!

The first Gotha goes down, thanks to several shots that luckily ended up killing the pilot...

Size: 208.6 KB

We suffered casualties, too, as the F2B also goes down.

The second Gotha succumbs to crew damage, too, as its pilot is also gunned down with a couple of lucky hits. You can see my Collishaw Camel closing the distance on his prey...luckily, the Camel is fast enough to catch up to the Gotha (although it takes a while)

And just as he gets in range to take a couple of shots (short range, as they are at different altitudes...), he draws the Boom Card! Ah, well...'So ist das Fliegerleben!"

It was a fun time flying against some pretty repaints - Jim always does a great job, and the Gothas are so eye-catching. Although we only had six folks last night, it was a good time to be flying little planes

    All the best,
    Matt

Thanks for the proof-read, Tim! I usually try to do a better job of proofing my posts before posting...I have fixed the error... That Camel is a chubby beasty when looked at from the right angle...

Great Game! Just have to post another picture of the Gotha Bill (Oldguy) and I shared the victory on. I had a Se5a and Bill had a F2B. Jim did a wonderful job on the Gothas!!!!

Our second game was a bit of balloon busting, with three German balloons, protected by two Pfalz DIIIs, attacked by four British scouts...

The photos show us mixing it up between the balloons, with damage being dealt on all sides (except for the light blue balloon - it was not hit during the game...)

    Name: IMG_2227.jpg
Views: 423
Size: 205.4 KB

The central yellow Parsival-Sigsfeld balloon took it on the chin with the first couple of damage cards, drawing a Boom card, so it was down 50% from the get-go...

    Name: IMG_2228.jpg
Views: 407
Size: 227.9 KB

That caused it to be the center of attack attention for several turns, but the cards kept coming up zeros as often as not...

    Name: IMG_2229.jpg
Views: 409
Size: 220.9 KB

The brown balloon on the left started coming in for some repeated passes, building up the damage...

    Name: IMG_2230.jpg
Views: 408
Size: 188.2 KB

Finally the central balloon hit its damage max and went down. There was much rejoicing...

    Name: IMG_2231.jpg
Views: 404
Size: 223.0 KB

I was able to shoot Jim's Pfalz down as the game neared its end - it is not often that I vanquish a foe, so it was a nice add-on to the balloon's destruction.

    Name: IMG_2232.jpg
Views: 381

Time was pressing so we called the game - the brown balloon only had a handful of points left, so we felt pretty good awarding the Brits the victory in the scenario. It's always fun to take on the gasbags

    All the best,
    Matt

A superb narration of the sorties Matt, with some excellent action photos to help it along.
I managed to fight of the blue devils brought on by those fires. A bottle of Gin always does the trick.

Great job on sharing the after action reports. The custom paint jobs Jim did on the Gorthas is over the top and superb as usual. Thank you for all the posts and sharing, all of you as a group set a high benchmark to be measured against.

That's what it looked like to us, too, Florian - we are lucky that two of the Gothas went down fairly quickly due to pilot wound hits that hit them a couple of turns in a row...

They look awfully impressive on the table all lined up like that - very menacing

    All the best,
    Matt
