As always great work. Can't wait to see the ships.

Are you cutting and pasting Ares coastline mats here, Rob!? It looks loverly...
All the best,
Matt

Just cutting the mat Matt.
No pasting involved. I have two mats which as you know do not tessellate, so I decided to trial this for coastal scenarios. It cuts very well and thus far no fraying of the edges.

I have been messing around with some litko flame and smoke markers. If anybody has been thinking about them you may need to modify them a bit.
They fit okay, but they droop.
So I had an idea. I picked up some nylon washers at the hardware store.
Super glued them to the markers. I added a little black paint to the smoke one to make it match a bit better. I will get some orange and do the same to the flame.
There we go, perfect!
Great idea Dan - simple is always best!
I like what you've done with your extra Coast mat, Rob - it looks really splendid on your gaming table!
Dan, that is a great fix for those Litko smoke and flame markers Make sure to bring them next time we play...
All the best,
Matt
Thanks Matt, and I agree with you about Dan's modifications. Inspired.

Ok, I have continued my Litko experiments. This time with bases. I got a two seater base with front and rear firing arcs. I am thinking on doing a couple of Salmson 2 planes.
I saw on another article on the forum on using return address labels for the plane stats. Really nicely done. Therefore I took the author's advice and picked up some Avery 18695.
They result turned out nice when printed.
Aligned the arrow of the printout with the etched one. The label is larger than the base, so I had to trim with a hobby knife. Turned out pretty nice.
Took red and black sharpie markers and went over the firing arc etching to make it stand out better.
Now here is the kicker. Litko bases have a 3mm hole to be used with their 3mm flight pegs. The part of the ares flight peg that inserts is about 2mm in overall diameter. Therefore, the litko base hole is a bit too big. Therefore, I used some hobby glue and just glued my peg in placed. Centered it the best I could and let it dry.
I then discovered something else. The insertable part of the ares flight peg is longer than the thickness of the litko base. Hence, part of my peg stuck out and needed trimmed. Would have been easier to do this before I glued it.
Here is the final product. Hope this helps anybody else using litko bases.
Here are more lanes I did this month. I received the planes (AIM models)the beginning of the month and had them painted waiting for the decals. Last week I saw that Kevin (MISCMINI) did the decals so here are some planes for the SOCCER WAR in 1969 between El Salvador and Honduras. This is considered the last combat between piston aircraft. First up my Honduran Corsairs.
Still have one more Corsair to do but have to get another set of decals so will have that done next week.
Very nice Matt. Looks like a big target for Cylons.
Nice P-51s and Corsairs Bob. Are you going to have planes from every air war?
Very nice C-ROC Matt. I hope you will be using it at next years Origins.
Nice work on the Corsairs and P-51s. Very awesome detail! Matt!!! You are making me want to play Battlestar now!!!!!! Awesome repaint of the ship!
The different planes let me look into different times of history. Have my next order figured out to send to Dave. Again these planes are for something different. I have some planes for the one side but just waiting for Kevin to do the decals. They are on his to do list.
I love all of the different 'brush wars' planes you have been collecting and painting, Bob - the markings and camo schemes are refreshing changes of pace. I hope you have flown some of them against each other in scenarios from those conflicts
Peter, my plan is to use it at Origins...
All the best,
Matt
Heading to the finishing line with two Valom Pubs. I like the way you’re getting a new „relationship“ with a plane by building the model of it. The Pub was in the Red Baron and Wings of Glory PC-game, but I saw her only in a minor role, until now. Truly a beautiful plane. I like the big rectangular wings, the similar shaped elevator and the round bonnet.
Sharp construction job!
I look forward to seeing the finished article.

What Tim said. So far, very nice indeed.Sharp construction job!
I look forward to seeing the finished article.
Just a dash from the elf works . . . We have been busier than ever with a half dozen different aircraft for the games, yes a dozen Zeppelins are cooking along nicely as well as 11 Flying Aces Nats free flight scale models getting trimmed and ready to fly in the Western Champs. All this with a bad lung and no knees. But we will endure to persevere! More pictures and progress ahead!

Sorry to disappoint, this photo is Captain Knowitall, (from this site) my current partner in crime! He is helping with the Zeppelin build . . .
Hmmm... Cards...
Found this:
Found it here: iModeler.com - 1/72 Hasegawa - 1969 Soccer War Corsairs
I thought the Hoduran Corsair would be fun, but the El Salvadorian? That looks like a challenge.

In 1/144 I would do the El Salvadorian with decals.
By the way: Mike I recently thought of you and your signature, when I saw this:
The pictures are part of an article about a German model builder who has specialised in US Navy models. He builds purely in 1/72 and most of his project are scratch build ships. Dont miss the USS Sangamon, USS Choktow and USS Alarm:

Yup, the US Navy did fly the Burgess-Dunne in WWI, as coastal patrol planes. So, the Pensacola diorama is pretty accurate. He also built a diorama of the first snow aircraft carrier:

The problem isn't painting the plane, it's finding it on the gaming matt!K

WOW that is some camo on that Salvadorian Corsair. Not what I saw in the book I have but you never know.
Just because Matt is interested if no one else - more Napoleonic units for my project Bailen. The Spanish Rgto de Guardias Espanolas (in bicornes) and the French 2e Rgt Garde de Paris with some line voltigeurs. Working on a French allied Swiss regiment but I'll still need two Spanish line regiments and the French Garde Marins.

I didn't have any overhead view so I see where I messed up on the decals. I have 2 more Mustangs and decals should be here today so know the correct placement thanks to you. Here are scans of the planes in the book I have on the 100 Hour War.
I just placed an order for 2 more of Dave's Corsairs so have to figure out how paint them. I might practice for the one with the multi color scheme.
Don't know why one is upside down.
Gorgeous work, Paul! I especially like how you've mounted the skirmishers - the rocks in the groundwork are a masterful touch! I am inching closer to picking up some 28mm Napoleonics to do some skirmishing in one-to-one scale. I blame you and Shadowcat...
As to the Brush Wars camo schemes on these Mustangs, the sky's the limit, it would seem - so cool, although as someone has remarked, painting that on a 1/200 AIM miniature would definitely be a challenge!
All the best,
Matt
Whenever I see Napoleonic figures I am amazed how you all paint them.
Yes, I do remember you posted some very nicely painted Napoleonic figures a few months back.
These days I'm play Field of Glory Napoleonic for brigade level; one infantry unit is usually a brigade (infantry are in two sizes - standard 1200-2000 and large 2000-3000). So about the same as Napoleon's Battles. For games with one unit = a battalion I'm playing General D'Armee.
I have played:
Napoleonique (1970s rules by Jim Getz - still a darn good set of rules)
Wargames Research Group 1685-1845
Corps d'Armee
Napoleon's Battles
Empire
Principles of War Napoleonic
Field of Glory Napoleonic
General d'Armee
I have a couple of other sets I've never played - I'd have to dig them out to remember their names.
Mini Fig Nappys are a pain to paint and too simple. For 15mm Old Glory were my preferred though the early sculpts before the sculpter was killed working on his car were the best (Way I heard it he was working on it on a hill and it rolled over him). TTG were full of detail but FAT and bulkey. Been working on 28mm Warlords and they are not bad, same with the Perry's though they are a bit fragile (Plastics) though very detailed.
For rules have
Napoleon's Battles 1st Ed Avalon Hill
Empire 3rd or 4th ed I think
Black Powder (not played yet though gone over the rules)
And played Tin Eagles (simple 2 page rules set) at a con this month. This rules set has promise and I have sent off some suggestions to the writer that he is looking into.
I started with 15mm Minifigs, then to Old Glory and for the best use AB. I still like Minifigs. Sadly all my minis are packed up for moving or I'd post a few photos.
I play Napoleon's Battles 1st ed. I have the latest but have not read/learned them yet.
For skirmish I like Brother Against Brother with a little modification for Naps.
Love you Spanish!
Spanish??...AAARRRGGGHHH
No, Austrian or Brit/Port armies for me.
Front Rank 28mm are my favourite Napoleonic miniatures. Perry Miniatures have definitely more realistic proportions, but I like the „heroic style“ with the pronunciation of the head/face of the FR ones over them.
I‘ve only played in the skirmish scale, yet. I use the rule system „Song of Drums and Shakos“ (SDS) by Ganesha Games. The very popular fantasy version (Song of Blades and Heroes or SBH) and the minimal invest of $ 8 let me try the Napo variant. Now SDS is my favourite game system beside WGF and DBA. For larger battles I will try „Large battles of Drums and Shakos“, soon. The rules seems to share the same elegance like the skirmish variant.
Here is a picture of a pickup game between my Austrians and a British squad of a friend:

That would be the case, Mike; the Salvadorians a some F4U-1s, but both articles I've read said they were "worn out", and the P-51s were bought to replace them.
