    Default AIR VICE MARSHALL (Retired)

At the start of our Doncaster 2019 event on Friday, our esteemed Wing Commander, F.O.Kyte announced that he was stepping down as leader of our UK community (with effect from 31st December).

It has been agreed with Herr Oberst (Keith) that as a reward for Rob’s years of dedication and unflinching devotion to duty that he will be awarded the unique promotion to AIR VICE MARSHALL (Retired).

I am sure I speak for everyone who has joined our forum over the best part of the last 10 YEARS when I say, Rob we owe you so much, for bringing us together into the community of friends we have now, both here within all areas of the UK and within the many countries of Europe and the wider world.

Thank you Rob, enjoy your retirement and long may we continue to see you at events up and down the country.

    Sir I salute you...

Congratulation on the promotion but sorry to see you retire. Hope you're not thinking of becoming a retired Admiral as well, the place would fall apart without you.

So glad you will still be a part of the WoG community here, Rob! Congratulations on a completely well-deserved retirement - time for someone else to take over the admin reins and allow you to simply enjoy yourself here!

Your love of the Forum and of WoW/WoG (and Sails) is an example to all of us, and we are so much richer for your involvement here Enjoy your retirement!

    Always the best,
    Matt

    Rob,
We are much richer for having had you as the director of the UK Wing, as well as benefiting from your guidance and mentorship, of not only the UK Wing, but across the entire Forum.

I hope your retirement from the leadership of the Wing, doesn't mean we don't get to hear and see from you on the Forum and at events around England and Europe.

    Thumbs up

A just & most deserved reward for Mr Kyte for all those years of service & maintaining the UK wing which must have involved many, many hours of work.
Glad you will still be active on the Forum & hopefully you will get more opportunities for gaming & attending Cons.
Lets hear it for Rob! Hip,Hip,Hooray!

    Dear chaps.

It is with heartfelt thanks that I answer your many kind words upon my retirement as Wingco. of the UK Wing. When Chris astounded my by the news that Oberst Hajj had granted this promotion to Air Vice Marshall (Retired) I was rendered speechless. Unfortunately for those present at the meal, this state of affairs did not last, and I then inflicted upon them one of my boring diatribes recounting every minute of my time on the Drome over the last ten years.
It has been just as great a ride for me, as you are professing in your messages of goodwill. The new friends made, both virtual and in real life from all parts of the globe, and even some parts of Mars, will ,without exception, be treasured for the rest of my days. I include Lady Kyte in this sentiment. seeing so many of you at Doncaster this weekend just put the gilt on my new peaked cap.

The fact that Joaquim and Diana joined us for the first time was an added bonus, and made the weekend even more special. I thank you all for enriching my life.

However, to plagiarize Mark Twain, rumours of my retirement from the Drome have been slightly exaggerated. You don't get rid of me that easily gentlemen!

I will continue my role as an Administrator on the Drome, albeit without responsibility for the UK wing, which from the end of the year I place into the competent hands of Chris Lambert. (Hedeby) who will lead you into the twenties with his own brand of panash and daring just so long as he is never knowingly under-gunned.

I wish you all the best in your new role Chris, and don't forget that you will be needing a new Squadron Leader for South Yorkshire.
To you all, I say thanks again.

    Rob/ Kyte.

It has all been said above, but is well worth saying again.

Chris has a very hard act to follow.
WingCo Rob has led the UK Wing in exemplary fashion. I am glad to know that he will continue to frequent the Forum, and attend shows when and where possible, but will have a lighter workload to allow a well-deserved relaxed future.

Very many thanks indeed to the outgoing Wing Commander, and congratulations to the newly-promoted Air Vice Marshal (Retired)!

Hard act to follow... tell me about it. I now know how David Moyes felt when he replaced Sir Alex Ferguson... just hope I don’t make the sows ear of things that he did...

Many Congratulations to you, Rob, on your forthcoming retirement and the honour of being promoted to Air Vice-Marshall (retired). However, words cannot really do justice to all that you have done for the U.K. Wing, this community and the game but Thank You anyway. Thank you too to Eileen for what she has done behind the scenes. May you both enjoy your retirement but I see that you will still be involved 'Flying a Desk' as a site administrator.

Many congratulations, Rob, welcome to the retirement pool ! Thanks for pulling us all together in those early days and forming the nucleus of Squadron Leaders - to see what it has become, a network of friends, gaming across the country and the world - is the envy of the forum.

Enjoy your time in the potting shed that is retirement Rob or in your case the extended gaming room.
Since we first met at Doncaster in 2013 you have made an ex pat feel right at home and part of the UK Wing. Your enthusiasm and knowledge of the history associated with Wings and Sails and your willingness to share it has been an example of true leadership and one of the reasons that the UK wing is so well supported by its its membership .
Its good to hear that there will be no sailing off into the sunset or flying off into the clear blue yonder yet
    Remember. Your forum needs you.

    Salute, Rob!
Thanks for all you have done to strengthen our community. It has been an unprecedended and hard to overestimate job well done.
But there is still much work ahead, so flying a Marshall's desk will not be your only occupation. Great you see other projects to be developed.
I am honoured to call myself your friend.

And I in return am honoured to have such a fine body of Ladies and Gentlemen to call my friends. I am only sorry that those of you whom I have been lucky enough to meet in the real world are only the tip of this wonderful iceberg called the Wings of Glory Aerodrome. Without you all the Drome and I am diminished.

Let us not forget though that were it not for Andrea, and then Keith none of this would have happened.

What are you going to do with all the spare time, now that you're not tied down to the Aerodrome?

    (Play more WOG, of course)

    ...but that means more AARs.

...which brings you back to the Aerodrome!

Well, the promotion is well-deserved, at least.

First thing he has to do is get his new title under his avatar and pass on to Chris his old title. Then he can relax and go back to just having some fun.
