Council of Five Nations 2019 Trouble Over Malaysia
Lots of interesting airplanes in this one. Oscars, Zeros, Vals, Buffalos, Wirraways, a Vildebeest and a Blenheim Mk I. ( had planned on 2 Vildebeests but didn’t get to finish the 2nd so put in one of Bob’s Blenheim Mk Is jerry-rigged to be a torpedo bomber)
This scenario has a Japanese ground force closing in on a RAF/RAAF airfield along the east coast of Malaysia. Supply ships have arrived to deliver munitions and food to keep the offensive going. Torpedo bombers are sent to sink the supply ships, escorted by Buffalos. The Japanese have Oscars and Vals in the area on a mission of their own, trying to interdict the Allied airfield.
A Vildebveest with a pair of escorting Buffalos flying over the airfield.
The Blenheim just off the coast behind the main attack force.
The Japanese, 3 supply ships with an escorting frigate just off the coast of the Army units.
A pair of Oscars leading the Vals towards the airfield.
A Buffalo catches an Oscar off guard.
A kill for the Vildebeest!!!
The escort puts a few holes in the Vildebeest.
MG fire from the frigate downs the Vildebeest just before it can release it’s torpedo.
The Blenheim though (the card overlapping the Vildebeest) gets past the defensive fire.
With the Blenheim too close the frigate takes a shot at a Buffalo.
A fish is in the water.
Thunk, the fish is a dud!
A Val trying to silence an AA mg. Lots of smoke and noise but the mg keeps on shooting.
The frigate scores a Buffalo.
Another Vildebeest, having dropped it’s torpedo faces an Oscar and a Zero.
Another dud! (the players were beginning to wonder if I only had zeros in the ‘D’ damage bag)
Finally a bright spot for the allies. A Val downed by a Buffalo.
Is the tide turning? A supply ship is sunk by a torpedo dropped by a Blenheim.
A burning Val drops it’s bombs on the airstrip. One AA mg has been destroyed but the big gun is still barking out at the Japanese bombers.
A Vildebeest is on the receiving end from a Zero up very close.
Once again, before it can release it’s fish, the frigate downs another Vildebeest! We all agreed this frigate had pre-war training with the RN.
The relentless attack on the airstrip continues. More Vals come into view, the AA gun takes aim.
A Blenheim sends a third torpedo at the frigate.
The rear section of the frigate jumps out of the water. When the flames subside and the smoke rises, the frigate is not seen again.
A lone Wirraway dives in unimpeded and drops a direct hit on a supply ship sending it to the bottom.
The Wirraway drop was the last action in the game. Sinking the supply ship gave the Allies a 1 point win.
