Council of Five Nations 2019 Raid on Rabaul
I’ve run this one a couple of times before. Always fun to get P-38s and B-25s on the board.
Japanese installations and ground defenses.
Here comes the first wave. P-38s looking for trouble.
One unlucky Zero faces the assault alone. Where did his wing men go?
The lightnings blow past the Zeros. The Japanese didn’t time their attack well and turn back too late to catch the Lightnings in the rear. Fi=or some time the only resistance comes from the ground.
Ground fire has done a pretty good job. The zeros finally are getting back into the battle. Down goes the first P-38.
The air battle heats up.
A second Lightning is downed.
A Zero takes a head on pass against one P-38. The one following it up is too much to handle and the Zero falls.
The first of the B-25s appear on the scene.
A long range shot downs another Lightning.
The final P-38 clears the coase and splashes into the Bismark Sea.
B-25s arrive in force.
A pair of Zeros get into the B-25 formation. Not a good idea as they both are splashed.
One Mitchell has it’s port engine hit.
The Japanese are jubilant as an American bomber is destroyed before it can do any damage.
Ground instillations are taking a beating.
More P-38s arrive to help protect the Mitchells.
A pair of Mitchells close in on two key targets.
A cloud of small parachuted float earthwards behind a Mitchell while it’s 8 50 cals rip an AA position.
With one turn remaining the US has destroyed enough infrastructure for the victory. Tomorrows heavy bomber mission will face considerably less AA opposition.
