    Default AAR: Bombing a Bridge

    AAR: Bombing a Bridge
A DH-4 piloted by Eddie MacBurn, and crewed by Frank Byrd took off earlier in the day and are just now arriving to their target near the front lines, which is defended by a few anti-aircraft guns. They are escorted by George Alderton, who is flying a Spad. The DH-4 is carrying a single bomb as there was a shortage of bombs. But according to Eddie, “I’ll take a bomb over a brick any day”.

Off in the distance George sees two aircraft that are flying towards them. He waggles his wings to get Eddie’s attention, and then flies towards the aircraft who are most definitely German.

Now in firing range George and the Purple Albatross open fire on each other. George sees his bullets hit the aircraft, and gasps as one of the Albatross’s bullets grazes his leg. And to top it all off, George’s guns jam. After firing, George turns away from the Albatross to get a chance to bind his wound and clear his guns. (I forgot to take a picture here) Eddie stalls so as to get a shot at the Albatross but in their haste to fire, both the Albatross and Eddie miss completely!

Is there any way you can copy a word document and convert it to a post easily? or not so easily?

I prepare all my AARs in Word first so that I can edit them thoroughly to get them just right. I also put cues in the text for where the photographs are to go.
Then I just copy the text (Ctrl-C) in the Word document, and then paste it (Ctrl-V) into the post.
The final step is to insert the photographs into the text in the post at the appropriate points. I load each photograph individually from my folder, because I don't know how to do it using a URL.
    I hope this is helpful.
While I am at it, let me add that I prepare my photographs on my laptop before I start inserting them. Preparation always includes making smaller files, and sometimes involves adding text to the photographs.

In addition to Windy Jack's excellent advice, I might add.

When you've copied and pasted the word text into the edit window, I tend to hit the 'post quick reply' button: then, from that page, hit the 'edit post' button', and the 'go advanced' button-this tends to keep the attachment fairy at bay.

My process is different for the Gritty Goblin Games AARs. I download photos from my camera to my laptop, shrink the photos on my laptop, start a message, upload all photos for a given AAR into the message, add blank lines before and after each photo. Then add text all around the photos, previewing many times before I post the message.

    Whatever method works for you.
So how many books are in your personal library?

I've always done mine the same way as Windy Jack but inserting the photos is a pain because I have to search and insert each one, I think your process might be easier because I can have the Word document open as I'm creating the post and not have to search for an individual picture file each time.

Daniel this is a nice write up without the pictures but I hope you manage to sort them out.
    Cheers

I use the same method as Doug, the attachment fairy only strikes if the pics time out.
You have an hour to post the pics after they're uploaded to the forum but it only takes me 20mins to upload & post an AAR usually.

Nice AAR Daniel. Glad you got it figured out.

Once you do a few AARs it will be pretty easy to post them from then on. Not that it is easy to do all of it, playing the battle, taking the photos, writing the AAR with photo queues, editing the photos, copy and paste the AAR and add in the photos. It's a labor of love.
