Default Valom Albatros DV - Jasta 30

Two more airplanes from the Aeronaut book - Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 30: Lt Otto Fuchs (verdigris fuselage with decal of the fox chasing the rooster) and Lt Hans-Georg van der Marwitz (wine red fuselage). The fox and rooster decal is homemade.

Fine looking aircraft! May I ask what are you using for your gimbal mount? Interested in knowing more about the plastic piece your airplane's peg fits into. Purchased or homemade? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Andrew,

The magnets for the gimbal mount I bought from the Aerodrome store:

    https://www.aerodromeaccessories.com.../gimbal-mounts

Some people cut off the peg on the airplane and glue the ball bearing in place of the peg. There are a number of ways people use the gimbal mounts:

    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...ghlight=gimbal

Instead I glue a ball magnet to a Litko peg topper as this allows me to keep the peg on the airplane. The Litko peg toppers are designed to allow WoW/WoG planes to fit on their flight stands:

    https://litko.net/products/litko-fli...wow-compatible

There's a post on using the gimbal mounts with Litko peg toppers. The photos have been deleted so they don't show up on the post but there's a Word file with pictures you can download.

    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...t=gimbal+litko
    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/do...o=file&id=1760
    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/do...o=file&id=1761

Litko toppers shift the centre of gravity so heavier planes will tend to dip. You can do two things about that - (1) rough up the ball bearing so there's more friction and (2) glue larger ball bearings and glue to Likto toppers - especially for the heavier planes. I got a couple of larger size ball bearings from Bearings Canada (note that they come in 100 to a package!) and extra Litko toppers. I haven't got around to it yet but I'll make up a dozen or so of each size which should be more than enough.

    Hi Paul,

Many thanks for the info. Similarly I've been using the 'leave the plane peg alone' technique as well, I didn't like the look of a ball bearing hanging off of the bottom of the aircraft - it seemed too out of place for my liking.

I've been using Green Stuff World rotation magnets as I find their cylinder base magnet is great fit with the standard pegs compared to some others - just drill them out a little, but I was curious about the Litko piece - I'd not seen them before - and it looked like it gave your models additional support and balance, which is especially helpful with the bombers.

Thanks again for the tip, I'll pick some up and try them out.

    Cheers!

    Hi Andrew,

I didn't use Litko peg toppers for the bombers as the bomber peg is larger and the weight of the bomber is that much greater. Instead I cut a WoG peg in half and glued the magnet and the ball bearing to each half. You can see that in these pictures:
