    Default Bournemouth: The M-Day!

When last Wednesday the Big Box from Mars landed at my place I could not resist and wait no longer! Called my neighbors (Flight Members) to test the Martians in battle.
Yesterday, Friday Game Night we gathered to feel the deadly heat-ray!

I decided to play the Martian Locust tripod, knowing my buddies, veteran flyers will do their best to defend Old Blighty against the invasion.
This is the story how it all went.

A green flash had been seen in the sky over Southern England and we all knew they are coming. Next morning a crowd gathered, hypnotised, on the beach of Bournemouth where the cylinder landed.
When the Martians unscrewed the glowing cylinder and a dreadful tentacle arose from the pit people ran away blindly.

Only the Homeguard crew kept their chin up and to send a warning signal to a nearby airfield. RNAS - or what was left of it - scrambled - to intercept the tripod devil...

All right, here you see the brave RNAS pilots: Sławek (left), Maciek (front) and Filip (right) who will do their best to fight me, driving the Locust machine
My game concept: I chose the Mk. I tripod. The RNAS where 3 Sopwith Triplanes (well, the game says that!) B firing. The pilots are veterans and I thought 18p tripod against 39p (total) squadron will make a kind of even game...
    See how it went.
I will not describe every single picture - you will see the most significant moments and damage below.
    My comments will follow underneath.

    And now the butcher's tally:

I managed to destroy all the planes (!).

But it was a bloody battle. My machine was in flames and after destroying the last triplane my accumulated damage was 15. One fire token remained so I decided my tripod must face it...and it was 0!

The upper row of damage cards is the set of cards taken through the electric barrier, when only energy counters where counted.

My Locust won the battle at Bournemouth with 3 damage points left, but it was a HARD and CLOSE match. I received an XP card as a fire penalty! That was painful.
We did not make any mistakes in the rules, IMHO. My experience is - the tripod's main pro is the ability to stand still and change facing. It was - however - a risky business, for the tripes were swarming around me all the time.
The black smoke - a great weapon. I managed to catch mutiple targets with one ejection.
But...it was too easy to me and frankly do not know if we played it correctly. I played that action, marked the barrel (right or left) and ejected the cloud after movement upon the planes. Well, cool!

    Great fun we had!

Great first game, Andy - I agree with Dave on the balance - we tend to go 3 planes to one tripod...lots of death and destruction! Looks like you all had fun, too!

    All the best,
    Matt
