A couple of chaps are flying a WW2 vintage and combat veteran MkIX Spitfire around the world taking in some of the most famous landmarks on the planet from the Grand Canyon in the West to the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji in the East.
Finished in polished aluminium with the guns removed ‘de-militarising’ the aircraft in this manner highlights the timeless beauty of its design, drawing attention to the unique and famous shape of the airframe. With a plane that is less provocative than one adorned with camouflage paint, they hope to broaden the appeal and reach of the project, and gain easier access to nations en route.
