Thread: The Silver Spitfire - World Circumnavigation !

Default The Silver Spitfire - World Circumnavigation !

A couple of chaps are flying a WW2 vintage and combat veteran MkIX Spitfire around the world taking in some of the most famous landmarks on the planet from the Grand Canyon in the West to the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji in the East.

Finished in polished aluminium with the guns removed ‘de-militarising’ the aircraft in this manner highlights the timeless beauty of its design, drawing attention to the unique and famous shape of the airframe. With a plane that is less provocative than one adorned with camouflage paint, they hope to broaden the appeal and reach of the project, and gain easier access to nations en route.

All the gen you need is here:

Check out the route map as it may be flying near you - Colorado Springs is a planned stop Herr Oberst !

Looks like Seattle, Washington is the closest it will get to me: Snohomish County (Paine Field) 31/08/2019

The next closest will be Williams Lake in Central BC, with a difficult drive into the Rocky Mountains.

Very shiny! Might need to make one . . . but with guns, just in case I ever play it . . .

Saw this on the News at lunchtime Dave, and heard the pilot from the Memorial Flight talking about the trip.

As Mike pointed out, Paine Field near Seattle is as close as they'll get to me.
Interesting to see the Canadian airfields chosen - been to 2 out of 4 - Williams Lake (1992) and Fort St. John (was there in 2014)

    Thanks for posting, Dave.

    Thumbs up

    Sweet looking Spitfire!

Unfortunately giving Australia, South Africa & South America a big miss.

Must pass a couple of hours or more north of you by the looks of it Matt, as it transits between Beaver County and Huntington.
