Thread: First Contact

    Default First Contact

Last Tuesday night we had three combatants - myself, Mark & Baxter so we (I) decided to try the First Contact scenario with 1 Mark II tripod versus 2 Pfalz D.III biplanes.

Mark & Baxter were the Pfalz pilots and I was the designated tripod driver.

After a promising start by the Martians with the first objective destroyed, the Pfalz pilots seemed to get the measure of the tripod with Mark managing to get in several well aimed shots to the unshielded side of the tripod.

Eventually the earthlings were victorious, winning the Mars bars, and the tripod bit the dust .

Just for fun I added my (unpainted) tanks for the last photo shoot - obviously they weren't prepared to face the enemy until the tripod was vanquished!

It was a very good game with Marc inflicting both wounded pilot damage cards upon Wayne. Great photos Wayne.

Well done chaps, good to see an AAR, looks like your pilots got to suck up some black smoke for their troubles but they got the job done so home for tea (Mars bars) & medals

Our initial foray against the invader occurred today around 1:15 PM - two Martian tripods (a Scarab and a Cuttlefish) were on a search and destroy mission and ran into five mixed Allied planes. It was basically a meeting engagement to see what was involved in running the three-leggers. We played side to side rather than end to end so that we would get into action quicker. Every pilot the plane of his choice to fly against the invaders, and with 5 pilots coming at them, the tripods were in for some damage. Not surprisingly, there were several turns where tripods were pretty low on energy and the Allies were lucky to take advantage of the situation and inflict damage. Then they caught the Scarab on an unshielded side and did some serious damage with an explosion card. By the end of the game, the Scarab had been vanquished, and the Cuttlefish was heading back to its HQ 'pit' to report on the engagement. The human pilots felt pretty good about what they accomplished, and it was a great first scenario to get our feet wet and see just how the tripods work.

We are looking forward to fielding these in our monthly games. The 'pods are a lot of fun and add a definiteyl new twist to our favorite game...

    All the best,

. . . well done! I still cannot get my mind wrapped around these guys, not sure why. I do think every game should involve at least one Mars bar or if not available at least a Milky Way . . . thanks for sharing this encounter!

I'm glad to see the Invasion of the USA is not going so well Matt. I was worried that our communications with the New World would be knocked out. Here in the Old World we can only await the next stage of their Invasion with baited breath, and make our preparations for the onslaught. Some people here still do not believe that the Martians actually exist, so your photographs are all the more welcome.

I need to find some Mars bars, Dave! Looks like perhaps an Amazon perusal later today...

They do exist, Rob! They have just been quicker digging themselves out of their cylinders here than elsewhere...they are coming for you. Prepare to unleash the Tripehounds!

    All the best,
    Matt

I believe that their invasion of Italy was held up for some time by a stout resistence from the Customs Officers.
Well done those men. Red tape got the blighters tied down.
