I think the phrase "went into voluntary liquidation while it could still pay its creditors" is a clear indicator of character, and I wonder how many business leaders today would take that path?
As I understand it, there wasn't a lot of choice. The UK government was imposing an excess profits duty of 80% by 1917, and the post-war demand for planes was satisfied with war salvage.
So with little fresh income, and crippling taxes, there goes Sopwith. But you're correct, Daryl, with no way out, cashing out with money to pay the creditors is the homorable way.
