Thread: One true scale.

  1. #1

    Default One true scale.

For those of you who have bought Decals or models from the One True Scale, I just got this message from Chris Sayer.

This is a brief note to explain the lack of TOTS. For some months I have been dealing with several medical conditions some serious. 1/200 is over the horizon. At the moment I am too unwell to respond to emails.

    I hope to eventually reemerge.

    Chris Sayer

I have sent the Drome's best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Prayers indeed. There is an unseen link betwixt TOTS and several modeling and historical anchors to our hobby and even our game. I and my elves have been graced by their work and community over the decades . . . comfort and healing my friend.

HBM Models were part of that 'one true scale' cabal, too - when I contacted them several years ago, he supplied me with several white metal models. The rest of his models have been taken over by AIM and are being produced. The whole 'one true scale' concept is pretty neat, actually. Hope that Chris does gradually reemerge - his website is really great...

    All the best,
    Matt

Trouble is, it's still taking orders, and peoples' money, without informing them or supplying the goods!

"Too unwell to respond to emails"................................REALLY?????

I hope he recovers, and quickly, but I for one will never use, or recommend, his site again.

I completely understand your ire, Tim! It is a shame he can't hang a sign on the door saying 'closed due to illness'... I, too, struggle with the 'too ill to email' issue

I hope you didn't lose too much to him.

    All the best,
    Matt

I recovered the money by via Paypal, so didn't lose out financially, but I then had to commission decals from Kevin @ miscmini to make up the shortfall...............

Prague Con came and went, and I had to decal my planes with I-94 ones, which were not quite correct, since Kevin's had not arrived.

It is my sad duty to announce that Chris Sayer passed away a couple of days ago. I am sure that all who knew him or dealt with "The One True Scale" or "Shed Models" will join with me in sending our condolences and prayers for his family and friends.

    Oh no.

Thanks FO Kyte for relaying the sad news. I just got an upbeat newsletter from him that indicated he was getting better, so this shocked me pretty badly I'm afraid.

Anything we can do for his family?

Wow! He must truly have been in bad shape - what a shame. As Dave said, it's always a shame to lose a supporter of the hobby. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Chris.

    All the best,
    Matt

Only used his shop a few times but an untimely death is never a good thing to hear on the Drome.
